Hi, is there anyone from Edinburgh on this forum who can recommend a good outdoor equipment and clothes shop in the city? My husband and I will be there next weekend for a limited time before we walk Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Path. We are limited for choice in what to buy where we live, and we need to get a few things for the hike. I’ve googled, but would be glad to get some personal recommendations for where to go shopping. Many thanks! Jill

I Live in Galloway, not Edinburgh, but know the Cotswold Outdoor shop in Rose Street (just behind Princes Street). All staff at this chain of stores are excellent. Their colleagues in Carlisle fitted me out for my Camino and they really know their stuff. More importantly, Cotswold Outdoor offer a trial period for their boots and rucksacks, so as long as the equipment is only used indoors, if the boots etc. turn out not to be comfortable you can return them for a refund or replacement with another pair something that works for you. I did this with my first pair of boots from them, they were fine in the shop but were too tight after several hours of being worn. Good luck on your walk.

Hi,
There is a GO Outdoors Edinburgh at 65 West Harbour Road in Edinburgh. Also Tiso in Rose Street and Commercial Street, Edinburgh. Trespass on Frederick Street. You should find all you need in these shops. All the best

Many thanks! We won't be able to return anything if it doesn't work for us, as we're in Edinburgh for only 2 days, but will definitely check them out. Thanks for the recommendation. Jill

Hi Dugong, thanks so much! Which is the bigger Tiso store, Rose Street or Commercial Street? Jill

Hi Jill, not sure where you're staying or how you're getting to Edinburgh, but there's a huge Decathlon on the 5th tram stop from the airport ('Edinburgh Park Station') - for £9 you can get an all-day hop-on/ hop-off ticket from the airport valid on all forms of transport in Edinburgh (otherwise it's £4 excluding the airport zone).

The brand new tram system is stylish, quick, and direct, here's a map: https://edinburghtrams.com/plan-a-journey/route-map/

Otherwise please contact me if you need help with anything!! Whether you need a personal tour guide, or just a cup of coffee somewhere! It would be great to meet up with a fellow South African pilgrim in the city I am currently calling home! :)
