There are rooms available right now for Wed night in hotels on booking.com in Bayonne. You’ll have to throw money at the problem, the cheapest is the Ibis. You could then get the first train in the morning to SJPP. But suggest you move quickly.
I hope you have the other stops en route Pamplona...
Had booked 3 places the year COVID hit.
We were tossing up whether to turn towards Santo Domingo before Pamplona
The owners of the Hotels we booked on the Baztan we lovely and understanding.
Yes , they go alright the Basque.
Hi misspenn!
Me again.
To be honest i don't know much about Biarritz as never visited; but it was the place to be along the coast at one time.
As i am in the same sort of position as you i wonder if you had considered this?
I land in Biarritz from UK on the 14th May at 18.45 so i decided to...
I would add just a couple of things. You can download the Buen Camino and or Wise Pilgrim app and refer to Gronze.com. All three have listings of albergues and hostel/pensions and hotels. Buen Camino and Wise Pilgrim apps have GPS in case you get lost. They will also help with your planning. You...
Gosh, I completely disagree! Love the little town of Biarritz and would actually plan an extra day or two there to swim and enjoy the village down by the cove! One of my favorite places in all of France, actually, and it makes me sad that so many folks just rush through it.
Unless I was arriving Biarritz very late I'd be inclined to make my way to Bayonne and the Hotel Cote Basque. Easy for the train to St J in the morning.
Day 1
Bayonne - Guéthary
Tempĕte Louis - it's always good when a storm has a name - it adds a certain gravitas. Little did we know, when we set out on our first day's walking that we were going to have a monstrous weather day. I had been waiting, shivering, outside my hotel, for nearly an...
A good week after my planned start date, I am finally here in Bayonne, with my very old friend, who shall be A in this thread. We have had quite the adventure in even getting to the start of our walk. My journey started in the peculiar capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, in Burma, and, four flights...
We flew to Paris, stayed in an airport hotel, then flew to Biarritz early the next morning. Left us plenty of time to walk around SJPDP and leave the following day. Alternately you could fly Paris, travel to Bayonne by train and spend the night before heading into SJPDP.
Edit: I have seen...
I opted for the overnight in Paris, both for reduced stress and for jetlag recovery.
We landed in CDG at 7AM, 90 minutes to get through Passport control. A little over an hour on the RER train to Gard de Nord, maybe 45 minutes on the Metro to our hotel next to Montparnasse.
We would not have...
Im just coming over from the uK by train and I will stay overnite close to the Montparnasse Station. If it helps the hotel im staying at is Hotel Le Fabe curtessy of Booking.Com and is a 15 minute walk to the Station. Buen Camino
You prompted me to look back at a post I made here on 20 September 2016. The train from Bayonne to SJPDP was so overcrowded that day that 15 of us were taken off before departure and sent by taxi at SNCF's expense. I was told the following morning that every albergue bed in SJPDP and most hotel...
I recommend booking ahead of time, for two reasons.
(1) Knowing you have a room waiting for you is good if you will be arriving later in the afternoon - like on the LAST TRAIN from Bayonne.
(2) Spending two nights at SJPdP on arrival gives you one full day in the middle to get over jet lag...
This is exactly how I did it in May of 2022. I stayed overnight in Paris at a small but nice at HOTEL DE PARIS MONTPARNASSE across from the Montparnasse station (where all the high speed trains depart Paris). Got off in Bayonee and stayed at Hotel ibis Styles Bayonne near the train station. The...
Agree with earlier posts. I spent the night in Bayonne (Hotel Villa Koegui) and took the train to SJPP at noon the following day. Great restaurants, beautiful cathedral, and a couple sporting good stores if you need anything last minute. The train station is right in the middle of town so...
