LIVE from the Camino Where are the Ditch Pigs this year?

An 'honest Scot'? Heaven forbid! ;)Yes, it was a busy week with much work done. Thank you to our sponsors. Here are 'before and after' photos to show a little of what your generosity achieves, and a third to remind us how beautiful our Camino is.

UK Channel 5 documentary on Galicia

I thought this programme handled the Camino very well. It embraced to spiritual and religious aspects rather than 'playing it safe' by reducing it to a long walk. Alex P was clearly moved by the whole experience of Santiago. Pity the bit about the Camino wasn't a bit longer, and Jonhiewalker...

Camino-themed Baby Names For English Speaker

'Elias', after Fr Elias Valina Sampedro, who did so much to stop the Camino dying out in the late 20th Century by painting the first yellow arrows etc. He is also referred to with the Spanish honorific 'Don' (i.e. Don Elias), which would also work. :-)

    The future of Camino Hospitality

Well, we all love Reb as well. :-)

Sad death of Irish pilgrim after completing the Oviedo route.

Such sad news. Seamus stayed here in Grado a couple of days before I took over as hospitalero. The priest kindly included prayers for him in tonight's mass. May he rest in peace.

What % quit their Camino ?

I'm with William on this one - the definition of 'quitting' is the key. For example, on my first Camino I met a couple of locals as I was leaving Burgos. They were out for a day's walk to Hornillos and were getting the bus home that evening. Would they count? When I was litter-picking on the...

    Will they hate me?

If you can, sneak outside in the early hours of the morning while the others are still sleeping. So often there's something special to see; the sunrise, the moving mists, birds of prey etc.

Are There Really That Many More Pilgrims?

According to my 'When are the busy periods...' charts, the pattern that you've shown for SJPP lasts until about Astorga, when it begins to change to the pattern seen for arrivals in Santiago. The data shown in my charts is for 2013 so it's a bit out of date now, but 2014 was almost identical...

    A "wave" of pilgrims??

I imagine there are different types of 'wave' that will affect the number of pilgrims in any one place or time. There are the overall seasonal waves (spring and autumn along most of the Camino Frances), but within that there will be mini waves based on day of the week, start of holidays etc. The...

    Camino for cats

I was going to ask if there are any cougars in Spain, but I know how your minds work so I won't.

    Medieval pilgrim

Congratulations to him! I've enjoyed getting his updates via Facebook over the last few days. He seems to have been well received and looked after by the people he's met. The Lord Mayor came out to welcome him to Canterbury, which may have led to an uneasy juxtaposition of historic attire.

    Happy Christmas.

Merry Christmas from Preston, Lancashire; self-appointed 'City of Enchantment'. (????!!!!) "May your days be merry and bright And may all your packing lists be light." God bless!

    Medieval pilgrim

Aquascutum made a name for themselves (literally) by doing it. Not in the Middle Ages though. :-)

    Medieval pilgrim

Is there anyone in the area who could furnish him with a couple of bottles of mead on Christmas Day?

Looking for a Nativity scene in a scallop shell

I was in Leon earlier this week and had a quick look in these shops by the Tourist Info Centre. I didn't see any like those in SY's link. There was a silver-coloured one like a scallop-shaped powder compact but it was a bit cheap looking and not very nice. Admittedly the shops were packed so I...

    That's that, then

Maybe change the name of the thread to 'That's what, then?' ;) Congratulations Alan. What a great Camino. You must have some stories to tell after that one!

Why don't pensioners live on the Camino?

Was kinda hoping Kanga meant Reb would have met pensioners doing long-term Caminos. Not that she was one! Edit.- just seen Kanga's response. Gracias a dios.

Looking for a Nativity scene in a scallop shell

There's a Christmas market in the Plaza Mayor, Madrid each December. There are more nativity sets ('Belen', if you're googling in Spanish) than you could shake a stick at. I'll be passing through Madrid while it's on, but I'll have very little time there. I can certainly try, but no guarantees.
