Just an FYI that all available beds are taken in SJPDP tonight - fully, truly COMPLETO! There’s an indication of how busy this year may be since it’s just a Wednesday in late April, not usually considered a busy time for the CF. Cold weather over the Route Napoleon may be backing up some...
Aloha my fellow peregrinos! I’m back house sitting in Hawaii (Hilo-area) for a few weeks and looking to see if any fellow pilgrims are around and up for hiking! Or even just meeting up to chat about all things Camino. Mahalo!
The line bridge across the river between Canfranc Estacion and Canfranc Pueblo has been closed due with an unknown ETA of when it will reopen (it’s currently off its pylons). Instead of walking the trail, you’ll have to walk the highway shoulder for this stage.
Sadly, starting in June 2023, UK mobile provider EE will eliminate free EU roaming for its paypack users, subjecting them to the same charges as it’s regular subscribers: €2 a day or €10 for a week. Most other UK sims have been charging this for awhile, but EE was my service of choice because...
After days of sunshine, blue skies, and melting snow, another winter storm will be hitting the Pyrenees this week. Prepare for howling winds, freezing rain, and perhaps more snow. Pilgrims should ALWAYS check their weather apps, checkin with tourism offices, and talk to locals when walking on...
Any American pilgrims passing through London in the next week? (Yeah yeah yeah, I know that seems very very specific and likely jingoistic, but I’m zeroing in on a specific demographic that tends to need some help while traveling 😎). I’m local for a bit and happy to meet up to discuss Camino...
If you are traveling to/from the Camino and have a chance to visit Zaragoza, do it. If you are walking a Camino through or near here, definitely plan a stay. And if you ever have an opportunity to spend Good Friday during the evening processions….🤯
This city is historic six ways over and...
Walked the first stage of this route from the Somport Pass to Canfranc Pueblo which is only 12kms but was more tiring than similar stage distances due to the altitude, weather, and trail conditions. A recent snowstorm dumped over a foot of snow at the pass and even though it is quickly...
A welcome to all pilgrims journeying their way to Santiago! The Elías Valiña Donativo at Canfranc Pueblo on the Camino Aragonés officially opens today at 1400 hours and will not close until 0800 on November 1st.
FICS hospitaleros welcome you to stop in between 1400-2200 to say hello, take a...
Visited the long-awaited restored train station at Canfranc Estacion and I must say that it’s truly a jewel. Sure, some elements were removed and will be missed, but only purists will notice. They saved what they could, copied what they couldn’t, and have successfully created a beautiful space...
Just ending a week in Madrid prior to heading out to serve as a hospitalero in Aragon and thought I’d give a brief update with info for pilgrims traveling through or starting from this fine city!
AIRPORT: despite it being one of the busiest in Europe, immigration was quick and efficient. Easily...
Just a heads up for those traveling to/from/through Lisbon this summer: the Catholic Youth Day is scheduled for July 30-August 8, 2023 there. Expect hundreds of thousands of youths there that week plus travel to get a bit packed pre and post. Additionally, hostels may not be available in Lisbon...
This overlooked route is one that English pilgrims would have followed after crossing the channel to France. About 120 miles long, it’s a beautiful (and relatively flat!) walk across Normandy from one beach to another! The path starts at a D-Day beach and ends with a traverse across the tidal...
Day One: Portsmouth to Titchfield (12 miles)
In the Middle Ages, the Reading Cathedral claimed to have the hand of St James and served as the center of that saint’s devotion in England. Pilgrims journeying to SdC would often start there and then walk south to Southampton to catch a boat to...
Unbelievable traffic jam in downtown Canfranc! Pilgrims should be aware that transit through the village may be delayed at times…😎

My wife and I will be walking The Pilgrims Way in southern England from the ferry landing in Portsmouth to the Reading Abbey this August 2022. I have been in touch with the local Pilgrim association, but curious if anyone has walked it recently (in either direction).
Walked numerous Caminos and now looking at the eight stages between Caen and Mont Saint Michel in France. Has anyone walked that specific route? I have resource pages but would love first-hand info from someone who has physically completed it.
