I caught a train in 2014 from Madrid to Astorga changing at Leon . I assume this is still possible . Check Renfe.es closer to the time . I also remember there being the option of a bus direct from the airport to Astorga . I opted for the train as Im not a lover of buses !!
I'd imagine it may reach a level eventually where a permit system will be necessary.Unless interest in it begins to dwindle. Which doesn't look likely at the moment. The people of the world are hungry for more than food and reality TV.
I have to echo andycohn ,one of the chief attractions for me on the camino is the social aspect and historical towns. These are sadly a little lacking on the coast. There are far fewer pilgrims and there were days when we were enveloped in mist all day. That said there are some really beautiful...
I met a girl in 2012 on the Camino Frances .We clicked immediately with a similar sense of humour and a definite spark . My romantic heart was smitten whilst my pragmatic head screamed No !!! For although we were sharing a journey together, we called opposite ends of the earth home ,she's...

Hola Stefystar
Made it to Santiago alright, got in around 12 midday on thurs 15th . I started in Barcelos . Alas,I am now back home in Ireland wishing I booked more time off ! What a beautiful route though ,with some amazing pilgrims, thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering a week to 10...
I think Leon or Astorga are good start options . I'd probably go for Leon , it would be a shame not to see its stunning cathedral , it's a good option for a beginner distance wise and for services / accommodation and company at that time of year . That's my 2 cents on the matter :) . Whatever...
Hopefully we'll all get to share a vino along the way ..can't wait to get moving !! Looking forward to having the sun on my back , the dust on my boots and nothing on my mind (",)
Staring from Porto on Sept 8th after a visit to Fatima..hoping to make Santiago in 8 days , has anyone done this ? Will I be pushing it too much ? I'm reasonably fit although its a while since I've done a 30 k day .
Astorga is a good place to start for a 10 day walk to Santiago , you'll also get to see some of the most beautiful stages and cruz de ferro :) . I think you can get to Astorga by train from Santiago .
Also I seem to remember having the most amazing roast lamb in Hotel El Cid in front of Burgos cathedral . In no way cheap ..but worth it for a treat :)
Spain is all about the TAPAS/PINXOS . Its a completely different attitude to evening dining than we are accustomed to in other western cultures . I love food and have eaten in some amazing restaurants in many parts of the world ..but to try to compare an evening in Pamplona, San Sebastian or...
One more tip . Inform check in state side that you'd like to be seated as close to front of plane as possible . Should mean you'll be nearer to front of queue at passport control.
