Aas the weather turned today we decided to take a shorter than usual trip
Off to Red Screes with a few intermittent showers
At the top we ate in the shelter beside the trig point
Then looking down of the Kirkstone pass road with the Kirkstone pub in sight
It will be. Quick return won’t it?

...run off. The idyllic meadows were actually green bogs where at times you sunk midway up your calf. It was a long, difficult climb and our weather was good, a week later it apparently turned into a full blizzard. Definitely #1 on my list.
SJPP to Roncesvalles. I did this in 2017, it too is...
I can now consider myself very lucky because I never got this email (else I'm more than positive I'd be just as panicky as so many other folks whos posts we have seen recently on the Forum).
As it was I blissfully got off in Bayonne and was promptly shepherded to outside where the bus was...
This has been a day.
1. Weather delay in Dallas, TX
2. Have to buy a new train ticket because I miss my original reservation.
3. Get notification of train issues in Bayonne
4. Train I am on stalls for about 40 minutes and now not sure how I will get from Dax to Bayonne.
Trying to embrace the...
...was MY hardest day overall mentally and physically. It was a hot day and the longest in distance that I walked. I think it comes down to weather, how you are feeling on the day etc It didn't help me when I got to O Cebreiro only to find bus loads of people in the few bars. I was tired, hungry...
I did the Zubiri descent last year after some rain. I did find it challenging and longer than expected. It took me a while, I'm a 65 year old solo woman with 5 ACL surgeries in my life and one LCL , all on the same knee. I was careful, was carrying my bag. It was my first day of walking. Yes...
Well, yes, but...
If your shoes fall apart just before León, and you can't find the same shoes anywhere in the city, you might be forced to take a big gamble, and walk the remaining 300-ish kilometres in completely untested shoes, and just hope for the best... I got really lucky in that...
...but to me, if only one piece of advice could be shared, it’d be “don’t even think about starting El Camino with footwear you haven’t worn for at least 50-60km, under as many road and weather conditions as you can manage”.
With bad shoes and hurting feet, you’re really not getting much anywhere!!
...things you might not realize before. Here goes:
- Let's start with an optimistic one - Some days are really going to suck. It might be the weather - on the first day, several hours into the climb into the Pyrenées, I literally could feel the water running through my toes in my shoes with...
O Cebreiro is harder if it's at the end of a day IMHO. The weather can play a part of course
I've gone Trabadelo to Fonfria, Trabadelo to Filoval and last time '22 VDB to Fonfria all in busy Septembers without booking
If you have time constraints or O Cebreiro causes concern, you could always...
I've just completed the del Norte, starting April 12th from Irun. It was challenging for my abilities but I did it with 8 kilo pack. The weather was great except for 2 days of rain all day. The funny thing about the Camino was when I would connect with others for 3 days maximum, then people...
...and walked to Burgos. In spring of 2018, I did the stretch from Burgos to Leon. It was April, and all indications would have been 'expect weather similar to the UK'. I mercifully checked the forecast - because it randomly snowed for the first couple of days and a couple of folks were caught...
Personally I used to take convertible pants, but now only long light weight hiking pants. Keeps dust out of shoes, and after hot summer it WILL be dusty. Obviates sunscreen on legs. If I want shorts, I just roll them up and safety pin them. Lighter, cheaper and easier to wash than convertibles
...and great public pools near some albergues - Najera is wonderful. Also some albergues not too far from rivers where you can swim subect to weather conditions being right - including Molinaseca and the river in Carrion. And, at the right time of year, if you get to Finisterre a dip in the...
