...is concerned, I've never had a problem but the last time I was on it was June 2022.
Here in The Netherlands the weather has also been horrendous for weeks on end. May went down in history as the wettest month and more rain fell during 2 days than the average for a whole month of May.
That seems like the most important thing. The scenery was secondary. Did they get satisfaction and joy from the experience?
Yes, that may be, but nobody asked me to make suggestions. The "itinerary/plan" for a pilgrimage may be quite different from that of a vacation. Perhaps the hardships...
I agree with It56ny completely on these albergues/gites. Jean-Luc’s place in Guethary was really nice. It is small and clean and included laundry and nice showers. Food in France was way better. We had a great, reasonably priced, dinner at heteroclito.fr in Guethary. St. Jean de Luz also a...

...staying at Camino de la Costa Albergue. They don't take bookings and definitely no english but I had no trouble getting a bed and others here too. Make sure you arrive b4 2pm.
The one you were trying to contact are closed temporarily. I passed Casa Camina you may like to try them
Buen Camino.
Thank you so much!
I only had a liner, but a thermal one. I think it is from Sea to summit, the red one. I have been cold some nights. I had had the same one on the Frances and Portuguese. And at that time I was fine. So I don’t dare say…. And June is warmer.
...I have walked two different stretches on the Frances in the past and next week I am setting out from Bilbao. The previous times have been early May and mid October, where I have carried a sleeoping bag. Given that it will be June this time I am thinking about just a liner. Do you have any...
...best cultural experiences which makes them worth staying another day.
Please don’t post it’s an individual experience etc I would love to know what you think.
Iam planning a trip in 2025 for May and June to do the full Northern experience and I would love your help in planning this experience.
...and frequencies?
Not sure if these establishments push (update) their prices to Gronze.
Supply and demand influences prices. Such “economic forces” also apply to large operations” too.
Many “small” hotels/Albergue prefer to deal with customers directly and may offer better prices.
...likely prospect, but if you have gone down to one step from purchase, clicked away, you are a ‘hot prospect’, and they are ‘coming back to get you’. You are more likely to ‘convert’ and it’s cheaper!
Hence my question which may have seemed a strange one as I didn’t explain why I had asked it!
Initially, the prices were the same, so I booked direct. But I guess that they had rooms to fill and released them at a lower price on booking.
The crazy thing is this was a busy time - late May in the last 100 km on the Camino Francés!
...future, but in my experience, it almost never rains all day. I personally would not and have not adjusted my plans because of predictions which may or may not be accurate.
More often than not the forecast shows some rain every day, and over the 10 or so weeks I've walked the Camino (Frances...
Yes, that is the reason. My Camino app also starts there. But I suppose that’s just a convenient place to start drawing a line. I think not overthinking is key.
My Cicerone guide actually lets the Norte start at Irun bus / train station.
I think I understand where your idea about the 'outer edge of Irun' may have come from, because The Santiago bridge / river crossing to France is also often referred to a starting point, and it is on the edge of the city.
Oh boy, not looking forward to this - may have to take the taxi option....
2 years ago I really struggled with the Valenca to Tui bridge - fortunately I was blissfully unaware that it was on the horizon and was so panicked I couldnt think of a way to avoid it...
This bridge looks like it might...
...who was also one of three reverse pilgrims I counted. That's fewer than a year ago, when I also walked a comparable distance (Santander-Irun) in May and counted 882 pilgrims. My conclusion at that time was that the route was not overcrowded. I thought it was ok now too, but there were some...
Hi all,
I would like to give my poles away to another pilgrim. I will be available 15 May in Bilbao.
The poles worked great until I didn't (tendinitis. It is all good, It is going away). The poles are low mileage middle of the road Decathlon poles.
I can leave them in your name at a...
As of 10 May 2024 this diversion is still in place. Don't go up the long set of steps! Warning/advisorysigns (in Spanish of course) are at the bottom of the steps.
