It was great. The weather changed a lot - a couple of really hot days and, as you saw in those pictures, a few days of cloud and snow, but it was never awful. It was really just a question of taking a coat
The Primitivo was dramatically quieter than the Camino Frances, though. The...
It's taken a little while to get round to posting here, but I walked the Camino Primitivo back in March. It was the most wonderful experience, and shortly I'll edit this post to include a fuller report. But for now, here are photographs of the trip. Enjoy...
I just have to sound a note of caution about inserts, as I've had bad experiences with them. last year I had a pair of boots that were hurting my feet on long walks. A sales assistant recommended green Superfeet and despite their being expensive, I couldn't tell any difference - my feet still...
Same here: I've also booked my bag into the hold. But this is good news for future pilgrims and, perhaps, also good news if it represents a softening of over-zealous airport security more generally?
Andrew,
Greetings from another Salisbury-based gear obsessive! Despite slowly accumulating lightweight gear over the past few years, there were actually a couple of things on your webpage I hadn't seen before, so thanks for that!
Ian
Justine: I'm going to be walking the Camino Primitivo, and on to Santiago, at the start of April. I'll try to report back on anything that it might be useful to know before you set off.
Er, no, it's REALLY not a shoe box he's carrying in the film!
Personally I wouldn't want to carry the extra weight of a second pair of boots, but I do see some sense in your point about what happens if your boots get soaked. Now, if you're staying in refugios etc then you could probably dry...
Thank you - really helpful answers.
I'll certainly report back on the state of the Camino Primitivo when I return; I'll probably be one of the earlier walkers of the year, so with luck I'll be able to provide information in time for people travelling this summer.
I will be walking the Camino Primitivo in about a month. My flight to Oviedo arrives quite late: after 9PM at the airport, so surely well after 10PM by the time I get into Oviedo, meaning I'll be too late for the Alburgue and will probably have to stay in a hotel.
So my question is this: next...
I looked into this yesterday and agree with dougfitz that you're unlikely to get a Camino rucksack on as handluggage. For example, from http://gospain.about.com/od/flightstospain/tp/hand_luggage.htm there is this quote:
(In case you're wondering, those latter two have meaner size limits, not...
I once read a travelogue called Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Richard and Nicholas Crane. They cycled to a distant point over the Himalayas and, at the start of the book, describe the incredible, minutely obsessive weight-saving techniques they went through to shed every last gramme from...
Tia, thank you for that advice. I have ordered a copy of the CSJ guide, so should be covered for information.
And I have a really nice warm sleeping bag that I take everywhere, so certainly shouldn't be too cold!
I have a slightly larger Osprey backpack - an Exos (46 litres, I think). I'm quite an experienced long-distance walker, and am happy to say that this is the most comfortable backpack I've ever used. I would definitely recommend Ospreys now that I've tried one, and doubt you'd regret buying the...
Thank you for these further replies. I plan to stay in pilgrim Alburgues, so I hope these won't fill up with people visiting their families. But perhaps I'll take a small tent just in case - this will let me be a lot more flexible with my days too.
Hello everybody,
I'm planning to walk the Camino Primitivo over the Easter period in 2012, probably starting 1 or 2 April. As this is quite early in the year, and a long way before the peak of summer, am I likely to find many of the accommodation and food places closed? Do they specifically...
