Yes fascinating and they're really delicious; I saw old men eating them in a bar in Muxia and tried them out... quite a skill to pull them from their shells.
Yes! And I thought I was asking an innocent sort of question, but of course not and that's why those words in the pavement resonated to a grieving inglesa. Perhaps what's more powerful about the Camino as pilgrimage is that in Christ we are one body.... that's who glues us together...
Thanks very much Kathar1na
Cunquiero rings a bell - there is a signature on the carved quotation but I couldn't remember who.
Yes, perhaps the more Medieval concept was Christendom. Anyway the words struck a chord as I took the last few steps with my fellow peregrinos/as after a wonderful...
Yes, sadly (to my eyes) the lack of European consciousness partly lead to the English BREXIT decision...which is why I was interested in finding out more about the quotation. It struck me as I was walking over the words as I entered Santiago Old Town...they seemed gut wrenchingly-apt.
Thanks so much....I've been distracted with other things and have finally got back to more important CAMINO matters! I'm applying for an arts residency so very helpful. Thanks. Sara
Dear Peregrinos/as
Ah-72 wonderful days on the Camino del Norte, but I have no photos of the text carved in the pavement as you cross the road into Santiago Old Town.
Can anyone help me out with a photo or the text? It's along the lines that (the concept) of Europe was forged on the roads...
Hi Kimberely
I've just returned from walking the del Norte and had a truly wonderful time. Get as fit as you can and take it slowly!
I bought a Spanish sim in Irun (Orange) and topped it up at ATM machines and larger supermarkets, but your phone has to be unlocked.
Have a rethink about not...
Hello Pilgrims!
I'm starting out on my first Camino next Wednesday! Starting from Irun and intending to walk to Fisterra at a fairly leisurely pace. I will be staying at the Municipal Albergue on the Tuesday night before setting out for what seems to be a gruelling first day on the...
Muchas gracias everyone for your encouraging comments and I will walk the del Norte...slowly! Good idea to trawl the threads for the names of recommended albergues and I'm really look forwarding to that sea-food. I'm kitted up with rain gear (huge red poncho) so I'm not too worried about...
I'm setting on out my first Camino on May 11th - from Irun to Finisterre. I'm giving myself plenty of time (up to 3 months) and carrying 6-7kg pack. I'm at the gym most days and walking as much as I can and excited by the adventure, but after a conversation with a friend last night, rather...
Thank you so much for your replies - they have spurred me on to get back to the gym and get fit. I will make the final decision of the low or high route on the day and the weather!
Thanks. Irun it is- on the low route. S
Thank you Marc. Yes I've decided to start at Irun - all your replies recommend it. Nice to know there is albergue in Pasajes. This forum is a wonderful resource. Sara
I'm flying to Biarritz on 9 May 2016, probably staying the night in Bayonne and then catching the train over the Spanish border the next day.
Looking at various
blogs it seems like the first stretch from Irun is onerous and accommodation scarce. Would I be better staying on the train to St...
