I wouldn't. The sole compresses over time and can lead to all kinds of foot, knee, hip and back issues.
For reference, I walked in an awesome pair of La Sportive light hikers. I had inserts for plantar fasciitis, which I replaced halfway, as these wear out as well... and from Burgos on, used...
These were from 2018, so the may not exist any longer:
Lovely fish dinner in restaurant in Roncevalles
VillaTuerta... Casa Magica... the owners made paella... and there was a small fountain with cool water where you could dip your feet.
Boadilla EL Camino... En El Camino Albergue had a great...
It will be rainy in Galicia, and cold, especially in the morning. Maybe frost on the meseta. Gloves, hat, Polertec and poncho to cover your pack! You can buy additional clothes in logrono, Burgos, ,Astorga and probably elsewhere.
One thing to consider: you must have your electronics with you / in sight at all times. So bring a baggie or two to bring them with you when you shower. Things do get stolen. Based on this, I would follow prior advice and download app.
One quick thing to note: there are TWO St Jeans in the SW of France. St Jean Pres du Port vs St Jean de Luz. Do not get confused when you hear announcement on the train from Paris. Go to Bayonne. Then you get off and switch to a small two car tram like train for St Jean Pres du Port. Train...
All good advice. I also have plantar fasciitis and my podiatrist recommended La Sportiva. Loved them. Lightweight. Ankle support. Great tread for wet surfaces.
Agree that walking on a treadmill very different than walking with pack. Alternatively you could ship pack...
To elaborate on prior posts, walk in what’s most comfortable for you. I saw a woman hiking in a skirt. I walked in leggings mostly. Easy to wash, fast drying. Re shoes, you don’t need big hiking boots with stiff soles. Everyone I saw wearing them had huge blisters. I had La Sportiva light...
When Costco runs out, try La Tienda , a US store/ catalog that sells Spanish jamon and other typical foods and products.. Even has a Camino gift package! Or if you’re in NYC, the Mercato in Hudson Yards, Jose Andres new tapas etc place..
My advice? Take both. Helios makes a super small sleeping bag that is light to med warm. Very lightweight. So you’d be covered if no blankets. Liner important for bedbugs ( treat yours) I did this in Sept Oct last year. By mid October, nights were super chilly, as in seeing your breath chilly...
I can tell you that in that section, you can buy a limited selection of stuff in SJPDP, but then the next town with a decent sporting goods store is Najera, then Logrono, and of course Burgos. You may find something in Estella, but I didn’t see much, and then there’s the issue of Spanish...
I would advise against. As prior posts say, you need to walk all of it from Sarria for a compostella. I can not describe the joy you feel yes, on Mount of Joy, seeing the city for the first time knowing you did the whole route! The route to Finisterre isn’t crowded, but the towns are more...
I walked the entire Camino Frances last Sept-Oct. I developed plantar facisitisBEFORE my walk, during training. My podiatrist helped me treat it ( physical therapy, first NSAIDs, then steroids, orthotics. I took 2 pairs of orthotics with me and switched them out halfway... they do get...
I started in SJPP on Sept 2 last year, finished in early Oct. Roncevalles was full, and about 50 pilgrims took taxis to the next 3 towns. Zubiri also filled. KNEW to pre-book Ronevalles online, but had a veteran in not told me to pre-book to Pamplona, I would have been stuck. Also--...
Yes... I arrive in St. Jean on Sept 3rd for my first Camino. I'm going solo and cannot wait, though a bit daunted by the first day hike over the Pyrenees .. JAO
I looked into pre-booking in St Jean and Roncevailles for early Sept 2018 and was shocked to learn that many places were already fully booked. I had intended to stop in Orisson, but haven't got an answer yet. This means that in Roncevailles I would have to hope that the municipal hostel has...
