Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

    Thank you, Adhemar. That's helpful.

Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

Andrew, I'm starting from SJPP on May 10 and have - finally - concluded that's what I'll do. Here's from a post from someone else that helped me reach that conclusion: "I had the good luck a few years ago to buy a sleeping bag liner which is essentially a very light down/feather sleeping bag...

Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

What time of the year/part of the month did you walk? Also, in all of this about being warm enough at night, it seems the assumption is that there is little or no heat in some/many/all? albergues (other than people's body heat). Is it the case that most albergues have no heat when it's cold...

Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

Thanks, Damien. That sounds like a better, more versatile idea than the key chain light I was thinking of taking. Sometimes I wake up well before sunrise, and can't go back to sleep even at home, so what you describe is definitely a possibility for me too.

Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

Thanks, everybody. No headlamp for me. I'll be taking a small key chain kind of light to get around an albergue at night and will patiently await daylight to get started in the mornings. As someone suggested, I'm also thinking about a battery for charging the phone. This one weighs less than 5...

Phone charging and theft; walking in the dark; liner or bag?

My first Camino is fast approaching. I'm reading a book written by someone who walked the Camino that's raised a couple of more questions. First, the author suggests that you've got to stay with your phone in an albergue while it's charging or it may be stolen. (I'm aware there are pros and cons...

    Right size shoes

Thank you, FooteK. Hiking poles are in my plans, but I can't carry them on a plane from the US and I don't want to check my pack (as it might get lost in flight and delay my Camino. So, my current plan is to plan on getting poles in SJPP, which means I won't have them work with before I leave. I...

    Right size shoes

I've heard of compeed, but don't know how it should be used. When should it be removed, or does it fall off or disintegrate on its own at some point?

    Right size shoes

Sensible advice, C. Thank you. I suppose it should be no surprise that perspectives and experiences on this subject can be so very different. At the end of the day, a decision has to be made and yours seems a reasonable way to go about making it. I like the idea of fitting shoes planning to wear...

    Right size shoes

Thanks, everyone. For anyone interested in a really long discussion of feet growing/expanding from long distance hiking (complete with photographs, x-rays, medical textbook info, etc.), here's a link...

    Right size shoes

Hi all. I'm a relatively new member on the forum and am planning my first Camino (Frances, from SJPP, either this May/June or this July/Aug) with great anticipation. In several blister threads I've seen advice that I should not get my normal shoe size for my Camino hiking shoes (I'm not...
