I've started 2 Caminos in the afternoon - St Jean to Orisson (came in from Lourdes) and Astorga to Murias de Rechivaldo (!!!) (came in from Madrid). I enjoyed those little stages to help me prepare for the longer days ahead.
I would definitely consider a part of the Frances for that time of year, with a novice, etc Maybe Leon to Santiago for a Compostela, or Pamplona to Leon? ...Enjoy, Sue!
I think we all know the Camino is changing. This thread brought to mind a story one of our pilgrims shared while we were serving as hospitaleras in Canfranc - he said that his first Camino in 2008 was overwhelming, emotional, life changing and wonderful. He said he arrived at the old Pilgrim...
We are currently in canfranc pueblo at Elias Valina donativo after having gone through the training in March 2020 in California. It was worth the wait! There is something about opening the door to tired, wet pilgrims (“sorry I smell so bad,” apologized a pilgrim today), and welcoming them to a...
Thank you so much for your thoughtful responses! This helps me a lot (as did your previous PMs regarding the albergue). I truly appreciate this forum's responsiveness and resourcefulness. Como simper, gracias.
Leaving the US tomorrow to walk the Aragonés, and wondering if anyone is currently walking in the area. Please send insights regarding weather, pilgrims, stays, Jaca to San Juan Monasteries, and anything else you would like to share.
Will be returning to serve at Albergue Elías Valiña in...
I enjoy utilitarian gifts - your thoughts of a bead are very sweet. For my past Caminos, I have asked my sisters for gallon & sandwich plastic bags which I use (& think of them when I use them!) Another friend gave me a big garbage bag which I used as an emergency poncho last year. These things...
Big disappointment for me - it was a repetitive sermon that seemed to have many false endings (to my relief) only to continue on the same path of reiterating the theme. One or two touching moments, the rest was propaganda.
As a woman who loves backpacking, but afraid to do it alone, I love:
-walking safely on my own from village to village
-the independence knowing I can carry everything I need on my back
-walking and observing the beauty around me - both natural and human-made
-seeing people once or time and...
it was the hug that brought more tears flooding - I was in Carrion de los Condes - my last night on my 14-day camino and was enjoying the camaraderie of the singing nuns and the guests from around the world. I was weeping profusely, so sad to be leaving the following morning, so joyful to be...
What I didn't find was my poncho! It slipped out of my pack one day after I had used it and just tried to tack it on instead of put it in my pack. As I didn't need it again, I didn't notice it was gone until I got home and unpacked my bag!
It took a trip to Cuba during the special period to help me umulate. I decided to have just enough when I returned home - so if I buy a new black top, one from my closet goes to the thrift shop, new hiking shoes? Old ones to the thrift shop. New knife for the kitchen? Old one goes to the...
"Qui va piano,
va sano,
e va lontano."
....learned from an Italian pilgrim in Estella. Loosely translated:
Who goes slowly
goes healthy
and goes far.
(Slowly wins the race)...
