I walked the Frances in July of 2022 during a heat wave. I started in Pamplona. It was extremely hot, well over 100f most days until Galicia. The problem was that it gets hotter in the late afternoon and in some days never got cooler at night so it was very hard to sleep. I spent most nights in...
My worry with leaving a backpack on the bed is that preexisting bugs in the bed can climb into my pack and then I transport them wherever. If my pack is kept away from the bed there is less chance of a bedbug having contact with my bag. Why would it travel across the room when my perfectly warm...
It's well worth it. Last year I attended 7 masses and never saw it. This year at my 4th (and final) mass it swung and it was everything I hoped it would be. Good luck!
Yeah I am sitting here in Laredo on the Norte shivering because all my evening wear is short sleeve and I decided not to bring a fleece with me. It's a bit cold!
No questions, just some observations.
I will be starting the Camino Norte in 3 weeks. Last year, at the same time, I walked my first Camino, the Frances. As I prepare for the Norte I can't help but compare how I feel now to how I felt last year.
I remember devouring everything I could about...
In April I spent about 16 days in Nepal walking the Annapurna Circuit. This month I have been doing day hikes in northern Pakistan. In July I will start the Norte!
Hi- this afternoon I was wandering the streets of Christchurch NZ and came across a poster advertising the performance of "A Path of Miracles, Joby Talbot's stunning choral depiction of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage." Unfortunately I won't be in town when it happens so I will miss it but am...
About half way into the CF I stopped looking at profile maps of the next stage -- I found they always looked steeper on paper than in reality and were just needlessly making me worry.
yeah, I have been using this debit card for many years now. It is fantastic. And they refund all ATM fees. It's quite brilliant! Esp when you get those super-expensive ATMs in airports etc.
Hi- Earlier this year I walked the Camino Frances, arriving in Santiago on Aug 2nd. In a few weeks I am going to be giving a presentation about my journey to some coworkers and I was hoping to include some numbers. Is there a place online where I can find out how many people arrived in Santiago...
Just install the Vodafone app - it's the easiest way. If you end up needing more than 4 weeks you can also use it to extend. For me it was useful because Vodafone allows free roaming in the US (though with a paltry 10gb) so after leaving Spain I continued to use it.
I used Vodafone in July and it was fantastic. It was like 100gb for 15eur. They were having a promo. And of interest to me it came with free roaming in the us so I could use it at home.
Before I left I set Gpay up on my phone and just used that the entire time. I didn't have to insert a card ever. This was seriously one of the most convenient things I have done.
Contactless(paywave) is wide spread and the terminals won't ask which account you want to use.
Last night I flew to New Zealand and when I was perusing the list of movies to watch I was surprised to see a movie, which I had never heard of before, about the Camino on offer. I quickly selected it and happily spent 90 min reminiscing about my own walk (that ended a little more than a week...
