I did that section 17 months ago and the Buen Camino App worked like a charm for the river route. The early crossover on Avenida de la Constitucion Espanola only had 2 arrows pointing to the left and no real crosswalk and was missed by all the other pilgrims I saw. Just as well as it would be...
The first time I went into Belorado I thought it wasn’t worth stopping for as nothing was open and the town looked deserted and so I walked on to Villambistia for the night. In 2022 I got to Belorado earlier and there was a farmers market in the square , the bars and restaurants were open and I...
Maybe it’s time to close this thread. Nothing new about the original statement is being posted, and what it is being posted are mostly pronouncements or vexed responses.
In 2019 I sprained my ankle in Calzadilla de la Cueza and walked the next 2 days in pain to Mansilla. It was so swollen and painful I took a cab to Leon rather than walk. I didn’t know at the time this was considered ugly stretch of road. I didn’t care that I missed that section then, no...
Plenty of places to stay and well worth taking a day there. It was one of the first places on the Camino that made me consider actually moving there. I didn’t think the smaller towns offered enough and Estella changed my mind. Buen Camino!
If you use an APP with GPS tracking you can see where you are in relationship to the trail. Before the APP I had to be careful in the dark not to miss turns. Now I can walk a lot faster in the dark as I can see where I am on the map. See the picture below from the Buen Camino app I took last...
I love starting in the dark in the morning and watching the sun come up on the Camino. Attached are 2017,2018, 2019 and 2023 Camino photos taken in the AM dark. The only time I was moving before 5am was this last September when the guy I was walking with had insomnia and I found him standing...
The bus I really don’t like is the one to Logrono. Seems like it stops 20 times and the road there is twisty/windy. I’ll be glad if they ever get a direct train. 🤢
Having done both to Burgos, I prefer the train as it is an hour faster and after flying I get less motion sick on the train. There is a 250pm from Chamartin station that gets in to Burgos at 430pm. This gives you time to have lunch, buy walking poles or whatever , and a little more leeway if...
In 2018 I walked that section with two friends and between jet lag and the heat they were exhausted by the time we crested Alto del Perdon. Rather than continue to Puente de Reina I insisted we stop in Uterga (I told them we were there to enjoy the trip, and not worry about the distances) and we...
This was the first place I stopped for a break on my initial Camino walk and the whole experience was so good I knew right then I was in love with the Camino. I stopped back again this September and the experience was just as good! The new owners had remodeled the inside since last time. Photos...
I’m hearing the Camino between Roncevalles and Zubiri is currently covered in snow and you have to walk on the road between the two towns.
Anyone currently walking that can give an update?
Just completed that section and the Buen Camino App worked like a charm for the river route. The early crossover on Avenida de la Constitucion Espanola only had 2 arrows pointing to the left and no real crosswalk and was missed by all the other pilgrims I saw. Just as well as it would be safer...
For those that walked it recently did you use any navigation like the Buen Camino App which appears to clearly show the routes and also shows you where you are on the map/route?
I walked this in 2017 and when I hit the junction I asked a local which way to go and they sent me the concrete way...
