Splitting the First Day
It's a wise decision to stop at Orisson, even if you are trained enough for a 25 km walk. The stage from SJ to Roncesvalles is one of the hardest, so you should make a short walk (8km), arrive early at Orisson (a beautiful place to stay) and see how's everything going on. Seattle to SJPP May 2017
You can go from Madrid to SJPdP in just one day: from Chamartin by Renfe train to Irun/Hendaya. Then train from Hendaya to Bayonne and another train from Bayonne to Saint Jean. You leave Madrid at 8.00 am and reach SJPdP at 19.15.- Fer from Argentina

To book or not to book ... in June
My wife & I have done the whole Camino from SJPdP to Santiago in 33 days, from May 26th this year (2016) . Just booked in Saint Jean and then started walking and stopping at the auberge we found place for us.
