Feeling a little judged from other commenters so...

If you only have a week why not do one of the middle sections? Do what the Europeans do...start in St Jean, walk your week or 10 days, keep your credencial, and do the next section next year. :D Just finishing the Camino today and I'll tell you, the absolute best parts were St Jean to Sarria...

    Walking at night

Considering the thousands of ankle twisting opportunities on the Camino, plus the fact you won't meet other pilgrims or have positive interactions with the locals, or see the magnificent scenery, or the fact that alburgues, hotels and pensiones will be closed to you, or if you had a problem...

Help with Camino Frances: Sarria - Santiago (Santiago - Fenisterre)

Rafael, this doesn't answer your question but I have to put in my 2 cents. I started my Camino on 23 May and today I am in Palas de Rei, passing through Sarria 2 days ago. I have loved my Camino, until Sarria. I am now depressed and miserable, and for the first time, want my Camino to be over...

LIVE from the Camino So glad I brought

Christian, since I was beside one woman and behind the other. I know precisely what caused the two accidents. One woman stumbled on a steep stepped descent and having nothing to prevent her fall, fell into a culvert, breaking her arm. The other woman, just one hour before having mocked...

LIVE from the Camino So glad I brought

Sur...assumptions? I was with the French woman who fell, and directly behind the American. The French woman also likes her hands free, which is a good thing since she's now wearing a cast on her arm.

    Toe Issues

4-5 inch heels??? LOL Did your feet say something to offend you, so you wanted to abuse them as punishment??? Take your heels and give them to some woman you really dislike... ;)

LIVE from the Camino So glad I brought

Christian, if you don't see a difference between using and not using, you may not be using them correctly. They pull you up hills, help you break your speed down hills, and accelerate your walk on straightaways. There are good youtube videos on correct procedures. Check them out and test the...

LIVE from the Camino So glad I brought

Sur, an American woman and a French woman both ended their Caminos this week due to falls that would have been no big deal with poles. One broke her shoulder and the other twisted her ankle but broke her wrist when she fell. Hands free are nice but I like my legs too much! Trekking poles rock...

    Albergue etiquette

Jenn, if you only have 2 weeks to wear your new shoes, I strongly encourage you to make a hefty investment in Compeed and moleskin!

    Appropriate attire inside church

Surely, but it's mostly the respect issue. Head scarves not required, not since Vatican II. Shorts of an appropriate length (appropriate meaning your backside isn't pooching out) But for pilgrims, for those of us who are on a religious pilgrimage and are in prayer, we're grateful if you have...

A few drops of rain won't harm you!

John, to each their own Camino, I guess...

Anyone starting from SJPdP on May 24?

Kristina, my friend Barbara from Denver is starting that day. When you query up your fellow travelers and find one from Colorado, tell her Jennifer said Buen Camino! And of course, your constant companion, from SJPP all the way to SdC, will be your Creator, who will never leave your side...

    Day 1 through the pass

Flatcat, one more meteorological observation... "light rain" comes from low cumulus or low-altitude stratus, which means if it's raining in SJPP you will absolutely come into "fog" at even slightly higher altitudes, since fog is a ground-based cloud. More info than you really wanted, eh...

    Restaurants in SJPP?

Falcon, having spent much time in Europe, I understand that traditionally the restaurants open late. However many cafe websites in SJPP say " "Ouvert 17 h.-19h30" which indicates they close at 19.30, not that they open at 19.30. However, thanks so much for reference to Cafe Manolo!:)

    Restaurants in SJPP?

Thank you, Nryen - I'll scratch this down. The key, of course, is "if your train is on time!" When it comes to trains, France/Spain is NOT Switzerland, alas...

    Restaurants in SJPP?

Ouch, Spursfan... If we had "ample opportunity" anywhere else, of course that's what we would have done. I'm taking the morning train from Paris and presuming my train is perfectly on time, I arrive in Bayonne only a few short minutes before the train departs for SJPP. My companion is...

Whari, thanks for your comment, but what month were you there? J.

    Help me feel the magic

“Now shall I walk or shall I ride? 'Ride,' Pleasure said; 'Walk,' Joy replied.” ―W.H. Davies “If you seek creative ideas go walking. Angels whisper to a man when he goes for a walk.” ―Raymond I. Myers “I am alarmed when it happens that I have walked a mile into the woods bodily, without...

    Restaurants in SJPP?

Another pilgrim and I will be arriving via train in SJPP on Saturday evening, 21 May, arriving at 19.12. Hiking over to hotel/albergue will get us checked in around 19.45, and then...the hunt for food. We are dismayed at the number of restaurants who post a closing time (closing!) at 19.30...
