'Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.'

I did have an uneasy feeling that it was eyeing me up as a potential meal.

'Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.'

Recently, thinking back to my spells of walking on the Camino I recalled two small incidents that reminded me how far I was from home. The first occured as I walked on the Route Napoleon when I saw hanging in the sky overhead a vulture. The second was just before Pamplona. I was sitting...

Hat or No Hat? That is the question!

The air holes at the sides on my Tilley hat allowed any gusts of wind there were to cool my bald pate. A parasol is worth thinking about but would the handle not act as a potential lightning conductor in stormy weather?

Did anyone lose a panasonic memory card?

If people wrote their contact details on a card and made that the first picture on a memory card they'd have more chance of having it returned if it was lost.

    ATMs

Before you leave home maybe you should let the bank know you'll be in Spain. It could be awkward if they decided the transactions on your card were unusual and stopped it.

    Orange Peels on the Camino

At least orange peel, and apple cores, are biodegradable. Plastic bottles and food wrappers littering the Camino are another matter entirely.

    A garment for the Camino?

A shirt worn for 100 days without being washed would give a good reason for the renewal of the custom of burning clothing at the beach at Finisterre. Pilgrims could use their walking poles to render the life in the offending garments unconscious before consigning them to the flames.

    A garment for the Camino?

Or maybe an ordinary shirt and a bar of laundry soap would be just as good. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... -firm.html

    Be careful of David!!

It can be an uncomfortable experience to be in the company of someone who is mentally ill. But we should try and remember that their lives can be a hell on earth.

walking with flip flops and short sleeves?

If Crocs were the answer wouldn't everybody be wearing them? Boots or sturdy walking shoes are the footwear of choice for most pilgrims.

Walking the camino in december with a dog

One unforgettable memory of a dog on the Camino springs to mind after reading this post. In one of the small villages after Sarria I saw a dog in the main street wriggling on its back and whimpering. I thought it was taking a dust bath but as I approached it got up and I saw that almost its...

There seems to be a lot there. Are you planning to have a baggage train carrying it all for you? :D

    Cross near Portomarin?

I notice items of footwear near the foot of that cross. What could have prompted three pilgrims to leave them there?
  18. Steve.Belfast

Please rip apart my packing list. :)

Would you really need two pairs of pants(trousers)? Would one pair with zip-off legs not do?

    Body wear n tear

"Are we really designed for sustained daily walking of 20K or so, just lazy in modern living where we take the car to the kitchen?" The health gurus here in the UK are telling us that we should walk at least 10,000 paces a day (about 5 miles) just to maintain our health. If you could reach...

Follow six Finnish pilgrims on the Camino Frances 2009

I noticed in the opening scenes that the pens are tied to the desk. What are modern day pilgrims coming to?
