    Dealing with a broken ankle

When I was 71 I broke my ankle on the VDLP in April shortly after Seville. I was taken back to the hospital in Seville where they operated and inserted plates and screws because I had broken both leg bones. I stayed a hotel in Seville for about 3 days before flying first to my sister in London...

    Does Refuge Orisson Have wifi?

Interesting. I walked the Camino Portuguese in May/June and bought a Simm card in Porto. It would not work in Spain!

    shower/evening foot wear

I took crocs on my first Camino but they take up a lot of room in backpack and are not good for walking if needed in an emergency. The last three Camino's I have taken Teva sandals. Great, non-slip in the shower and dry in a few minutes. Used them in the evenings with socks if it was. Old and...

Difficulty at Pilgrims Office in Santiago

After reading the above I feel I must offer my experience when I arrived in Santiago in early May. I had walked on the VDLP starting in Merida and connecting with the Frances in Astorga. During the last 100 km of the 750 km journey I experienced such leg pains that walking was difficult and I...

    Ridiculous new routes into Portomarín

I was there about 4 weeks ago and thought the sign indicated that the left option was for bicycles and straight ahead for walkers so I took the route that proved to be ridiculous and I was glad when I finally reached the bottom. It is so steep with rocks that I was sitting down and sliding on my...

I need to travel from SDC to Porto in Portugal on a Sunday morning in July, I know that there are bu

I took the Alsa bus from Santiago to Porto on Sunday in September 2015. It took about 4 hours. As suggested by others, wait until the summer schedule is published. We booked easily on their website.

Looking for blogs/connections from former pilgrims that walked Camino Frances in May

I walked late April/May 2013. We had a lot of rain and some very cold days. Even deep snow on El Cebreiro on May 25. I wore a fleece almost every day. Be prepared for wet an cold but hope you won't find it. Better to be prepared than surprised. Every year can be different.

Can a 53 Year Old " Hiking Virgin" Really do The Compostella De Santiago? YOU BET I CAN!

Of course you can do it. I was not a hiker and walked from SJPDP to Santiago in 2013 when I turned 70. It was one of the best 32 days I ever spent spiritually and physically.

Albergue in Maneru NOT shut down (2014) for good as it looks

I can confirm that. Stayed there last year and it was one of our nicest experiences.

    Not a walker/hiker

I am 70 and I walked 500 miles on the Camino Frances in April/May of this year and loved every minute of it. I did training before to improve fitness and test equipment which helped a lot and I had no blisters or other problems. Next year I plan to walk the Via de la Plata at age 71.

Walking the Pyrenees, Route Napoleon in April

I walked it on 24 April this year. It was closed 2 days before but we had a beautiful day. Snow on some parts of the trail but nothing dangerous. Weather was warm but very windy. It had been closed a few days before and closed again after we crossed. I agree with others. Take it as it comes. It...

Just how difficult is it getting over The Pyrenees..

I came over April 24. It took 6 hours of hard uphill against a strong wind, then about an hour on the very steep descent to Roncevalles. There was snow at the top. About 100 people came over that day. I had not been able to train for anything comparable in length, altitude or conditions but I...
