I wish i'd thought of this whilst hiking! I would have happily payed for one every few days. At the albergue in Molinaseca I was given a foot massage by another pilgrim and I could have asked him to marry me right there, unfortunately he was a super fast walker and I never saw him again :D
The Eagle Trail in John Forest National Park is another good one to train on with the backpacks (and you can have a beer at the end of it, which definately replicates life on the camino :D ).
I had my hike all planned out as well (although i didnt go to the extent of booking accomodation other than the first few nights). I enjoyed all the planning, it was exciting and fun to learn about the places I was going to. I had every intention of sticking to my plan until I met my fellow...
Hey Noni,
I walked the Camino Frances earlier this year as a solo female and had no problems at all. You meet up with other hikers immediately, so you are only ever alone if you choose to be.
I've booked into the L'esprit du Chemin in Saint Jean based on tonnes of recommendations from this site. I'll be there 4 days before you!
The website is easy to make a booking from: http://www.espritduchemin.org/English/welcome.html
Hi Teresa,
I'll be starting on the 17th of April from SJPP!
I'll be staying at L'Esprit the night of the 16th and then I have booked a bed at Orisson on the 17th (nice short first day of walking as i'm sure i'll be jet lagged having come from Australia).
I'd be more than happy to walk with...
Thanks BusyBee and Camino-David! I now have my train ride from Bayonne to St Jean organised. I get into St Jean at 7.30pm, bit later than i had hoped but if i organise a bed there will be nothing to worry about :)
Hahah! Well, at least you hadn't paid the full 30 for it :) . I know you can get pre-prepared kits but from what i've seen they tend to be geared toward specific needs, such as a 'gastro pack'. So I thought i would put one together myself...things like, blister pads, bandaid, Stingoes...
Thanks Heather, I was planning to book into Orrison...why rush through the beautiful Pyranees! I had a look at the L'esprit, their bookings open this week so i will book in with them too. The rest of the accomodation can be left up to the Camino to decide :D
Gear...ummm...sort of :) I have the backpack, hiking shoes and some hiking pants but that's it. I still need to get a wind/rain-proof jacket of some sort and maybe a head torch. I havent even thought of toiletries and first aid kits yet, I figure I can get a lot of things along the way when and...
Morning everyone,
I've just booked my flight from Perth, Australia to London and then a flight to Biaritz...now i'm excited!!!
My folks were concerned when i told them of my plans, they didnt want me hiking alone. I told them I won't be alone, there will be other pilgrims on the trail to hike...
I'll be only a few days behind you, I'm going to start on either the 16th or 17th. I wish my brother would join me for the hike! Enjoy and perhaps i'll see you out there :D
Hi everyone!
I will be starting my journey from St Jean in mid-April this year (2012). Can't wait to begin and meet my fellow pilgrims. It will be one heck of an adventure :D
