    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

Ack! The Dinner/Supper/Tea/Lunch confusion! At my grandparents' farm, midday meal was dinner and the largest meal of the day. Supper was in the evening, and smaller (like tea but a bit later). At my parents' house, Dinner was in the evening and the largest meal, and we had lunch at midday...

    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

It was pretty fogged in when I was at Orisson. :( Evening and morning. Ah well, I just have to go back!

    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

5:30 is a mite early for dinner, don't you think?

    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

I suppose it depends on how fast you walk up the hill. ;) My son and I had a picnic lunch by the river there and walked up and had quite a bit of time before dinner. On the way, I stopped a lot to take photos- (really to catch my breath and rest--we were jet-lagged having arrived in Paris...

Any upstate NY'ers here? Saugerties, Kingston, Woodstock, Albany area?

Well, I'm just outside of Ithaca, so it would be a bit of a drive! If you can't meet up with someone closer, I guess we could meet in Oneonta. hmmm. There is a facebook group for the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Americans on the Camino-- you may find someone closer to your area there.

Hello all! Ideas for squeezing the Camino Francés into 25 days

Perhaps you can pick up some time by biking in a few sections, maybe the Meseta and someone just posted that you can rent a bike at O'Cebriero down to Tricastela. But imho I would start at Burgos if I had just 25 days, or start at SJPP and walk for 23 days, then take the train or bus to...

LIVE from the Camino Walking with my boys.

Another thought and a response: I had buy in from my younger son, Ciaran. My older son, Aidan, was 16 yo when Ciaran and I walked together. I had talked about walking the camino for over ten years-- I had hoped to do it as a family. But then, my husband was not interested in it, and then he...

LIVE from the Camino Walking with my boys.

I walked with my 13 yo from Leon in 2015, and then again (at 14yo) from SJPP in 2016. Walking from Leon took us about 13 days. --- Walking with Ciaran changed our relationship, brought us closer and gave us stories to share. He is now 22 and finishing university, and I am incredibly glad he...

First timer, solo woman senior. Travel company or self book?

Welcome and buen camino! When I first walked, my husband was concerned and asked me what I would do I got stuck somewhere or turned my ankle or.... My answer is "I'll call a taxi." You will not be far from all that you need. It's not like you'll be up in the rocky mountains. There are so...

    Needing/wanting motivation

There are some serious hills in between Le Puy-en-Velay and Conques. It's really crazy how many hills you go up and then down and then up and then down and then up and then... you get the idea. I remember once I just stopped half way up a hill, I was a week or so into walking and my legs just...

Camino with 6 year old July 2023

I've posted this before-- but it is my favorite videos of the camino (le chemin) ever. It is from Le Puy to Le Gers (or a bit past it). When I first heard about the camino I had two little ones, and this video was close to how I imagined we could walk with our children. Donkeys and mules are...

Companions and accomplices for a long hike

Choosing a walking partner can be tricky. My son and I were well matched in pace when he was 13 and 5'5", but now he is 6'2". Now he is patient with me as he changes his stride, or waits for me at an agreed on point on the way ahead. My older sister wants me to walk the camino with her, but...

    Hi and help!

there are lots of guide books out there! I used a few-- Brierly is a good one to start with. All you have to do is follow the arrows (and other pilgrims) and stop after 18 km or so. There are villages and restaurants and places to say all along the Way. I wish you a Buen Camino.

    Epicamino

I woke up at 2am (why?)--and I have sat here reading your epicamino posts. Thank-you! My 17yo son and I were walking for 10 days from Belorado to Leon a bit ahead of you-- (arriving at Leon on Good Friday)-- Definitely not a long enough walk. But it was the time I could scrounge up. --...

    Burgos, April 2019

Hi Miriam-- My two sons and I will be starting out from Burgos on the 12th or possibly the 13th-- This is our third time walking, but the first time on the meseta! I expect my boys will pull ahead of me (they are 6' tall, ages 18 and 21), so maybe we can connect and walk together for a ways...
