    Future Pilgrim from the Philippines

Hi Fr Manny, I should visit your photo exhibit at Don Bosco. There are other Manila-based Pinoys in this forum, let's hope we can get them to visit too. Mark

    Future Pilgrim from the Philippines

Mayon Volcano is far far away from where Fr Amado is (Davao), and from where I am (Manila). Wish I was there though! It happens every 10 years or so. It is a beautiful volcano. Sorry for the deviation from the topic. :-)

    Future Pilgrim from the Philippines

Hola Jean-Marc, So our "paths" have crossed once more! I do not really intend to do the Camino again, as I do not want to contribute to the overcrowding. (Didn't we discuss this when we met? Weren't you a repeat pilgrim then? ) I heard a few months afterwards that the flag is gone...

    Future Pilgrim from the Philippines

Hola Fr Amado, I walked the Camino Frances in April-May 2006. And yes, I'm Pinoy. And *could* be the fellow who had the Philippine flag being referred to by canuck(Jean-Marc) because there was sleet falling sideways when I was up there in Cruz de Ferro on 22May2006. I remember cursing in...

    Anyone want do the camino.

Nathanael, Doing it alone can do wonders for you, do not be afraid. You won't be alone on the road anyway. Walking the camino is both a solitary and community thing. You will find that out once you're there. Mark

    May 2008

Red Kite, Best time of year to do the camino. I walked in May last year and the flowers were in full bloom and the fields green all the way from Navarra to Galicia. And not a hint of rain in Galicia in the last week of May, only early morning fog. Of course with all that climate change...

    Ops I forgot another question

No need to call them up. Just walk in and get your credencial & sello at the office. They can assist you in finding accommodations.

    Newbie!!!!

Aw shucks! And I had to take the plane and start from SJPP last year to get to Santiago. A pretty expensive pilgrimage, when all it takes is a short hop down to Cebu after all. How about it, peskywabbit (who has been through 2 caminos)? A short weekend reunion pilgrimage without the...

    Eventually doing it!!!

And when you're in London, try to drop by the CSJ office to say hello. That way your London visit will be camino-related somehow.

    Eventually doing it!!!

Mouse, You can always finish the journey in another year or across several years. Imagine the excitement (and obsession) between walks! Mark

trying to stay home (and failing)

xate, Pay attention to the signs. Maybe it is not yet the time for your Camino. But you will walk it one day. You will know when. Things will converge when the time is right. Mark

    dogs

Pilgrims getting bitten by dogs is not a myth. I met an Englishman in Logrono who was bitten by a small dog in SJPP (The dog's owner who saw the incident didn't even bother to help). He showed me his wounds; already had scabs on them. In Galicia, I've also seen a dog bite a cow's hind leg...

    SEPT '07 PILGRIM

Lillian, When you're in Bilbao don't forget the Museo Guggenheim. And get a 'sello' from the Catedral de Santiago at the Casco Viejo. If you're carrying an AUJ (Accreditacion Universidad Jacobea) credencial you can get sellos from the 2 university campuses in town. Mark

    SEPT '07 PILGRIM

Hi Lillian, Do you mean 8th/9th of September or October at Fisterra? If you are going to take it easy, I doubt if you can walk the distance in less than a month, unless you'll skip a section. Walking SJPP-Fisterra 18 Aug to 08 Oct would be fun though! Mark

    Confessions of a couch potato

Greenshank, You think you're a bit crazy? Indeed you are! And so are the rest of us. ;-) Buen camino! Mark

accidental occidental on a new path

Good idea to take it slow, Mel. If I may make some suggestions, some good spots for sitting down to draw the view would be: 1. the Puente Magdalena in Pamplona 2. the approach to Alto de Perdon 3. Eunate 4. the approach towards Cirauqui 5. That tiny arch of stones near the cairns...

    Greetings to All

Speaking of 'cooking', I just cant fathom why white skinned pilgrims love lounging under the sun at 4 PM in May, while I, the brown-skinned one, is hiding under a tree. Don't you guys get skin cancer at all? ;-) Mark

    Sleeping outside

ehaldenb, No need to be scared of large animals, even those with sharp horns. Be afraid of the four (or ten-) wheeled vehicles that can run you down when you cross the busy roads, e.g. entering Leon. Mark

    Michigan Pilgrim- Leaving 5/20- help!

Emily, When you arrive in Bilbao, don't forget to visit the Catedral de Santiago at the Casco Viejo (old quarter), you can actually get your first sello there if you already have a credencial. The young sacristans can speak English. You may have to wait for the cathedral door to be open...
