The mayor of Santiago de Compostela, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo, has indicated that during the coming Year of St James pilgrims will not have access to the cathedral with backpacks, but may deposit them inside the adjoining monastery of San Martino Pinario after an agreement with the Archbishopric.
It is a measure of security for the Holy Year, a time in which a total of 8111 officers of the Guardia Civil and National Police in Galicia will participate in the safety device and the Camino de Santiago, which could add more troops in if necessary.
Major concentrations planned for next year, dedicated to St. James in August include a gathering of around 35,000 young Europeans. "People who come to Santiago are many characteristics of a special and very little conflict," said the mayor of Santiago de Compostela, who noted that, nevertheless, plans should be organized to prevent massive concentrationsresulting in some pilgrims stay without access to the cathedral.
In this regard, the church has plans to conduct up to five daily Masses to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims expected, but felt that they could also take place in adjacent squares masses of Quintana and Obradoiro.
He added that for visitors and pilgrims arriving by bicycle to Compostela, the city will enable an area to allow for parking next to the parking area from neighboring Xoán XXII and for those traveling on horseback, he said that the City is looking to build a temporary building in Monte de Gozo or entrust the management to an association.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Banning backpacks from the Cathedral as a safety measure is sad but necessary .

I like to see the backpacks leaning neatly at the foot of the pillars in the sanctuary during a mass.

It is sad, but like 90% of the measures at airports, it is NOT necessary.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
