3 weeks w/85-yr-old friend

Dear Helpful Person,

Next May and June 2011, I will be walking the French Way. My dear friend, Mitzi, wants to join me by bus for a 3-week stretch. Could you please suggest which 15-day walking section (no weekends) has the best bus availability between towns? The plan is for me to walk while she rides the bus, and we'll meet every day to tell our stories. Thanking you in advance for your kind attention to my request,

Sincerely,

Tacey

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Gosh, that's a hard one, because the bus runs all along the Frances... I'd choose the most scenic.. but then.. where is that? ::laughing::

Close your eyes and stick a pin in the map!

Maybe Galicia? It's pretty spectacular!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I agree that Galicia is beautiful, but how about Santo Domingo to Leon fror some really impressive architecture!

I think that is a wonderful idea! A friend of mine walked with her brother last year while her husband followed in a car (he was recovering from a knee replacement).

Some things to consider.

Mitzi will qualify for a senior's discount on most buses so it might be worth buying a BusPlus card to use on the Alsa bus service. They offer 40% discount on weekdays and 20% over weekends to BusPlus card holders.
She will also benefit from senior citizen discounts at museums and other tourist attractions.

If you are walking, it will take you 5 or 6 hours from village to village and it will take Mitzi only 20 minutes.

If you are both staying in hotels it would be better to book these ahead.

Will Mitzi have her luggage transported between stages? There are numerous companies that will do this for her. You'll find a list here:

In some hotels you can only check-in after lunch time but they should accept and hold her luggage until check-in time.

I think I would do the last three weeks from Burgos to Santiago and then, if you have time, you could both get the bus to Fistera and sip a vino tinto as you watch the sun set over the Atlantic!
