Hi. I'd like to issue a warning to all pilgrims travelling from Sarria on to Santiago in summer: after finding room in shelters and albergues in Navarra, La Rioja and Castilla-León, no matter the hour, we found that it was nearly impossible to find shelter in Galicia due to the number of pilgrims that walk the Camino in its last 140 kms. Many Spanish people like to spend their vacation time (jULY AND aUGUST) doing the last kilometres to earn the Compostelana, so the roads are always crowded and even if you arrive early to O Cebreiro, Triacastela, Sarria, Portomarin, Palas de Rei or Arzua, it is hard, and sometimes impossible, to find an open space in municipal or religious albergues. We ended up calling private shelters in each place 3-days in advance to find room and board, and even so, we had to call two or three places to find room. Although they are a little bit more expensive than public shelters, it is advisable at least to provide yourselves with a list of private shelters and their phones just in case. ¡BUEN CAMINO!
