antjie,

I have not stayed here yet but hope to on my next Camino Frances. The pension Corazon Puro is in Bizkarreta/Viskarret. it opened this year and seems to offer a very good value. Here is their web >> http://www.corazonpuro.es. If you do try it let us know how you like it.

Buen Camino,

Margaret Meredith

Hola antjie
Depending how slow you want to go there is also Espinal, which has lot's of options.
In 2009 we spent most of the morning in Roncevalles at the museum, many people "rush" out of Roncevalles, but there are a number of things to see there, if you have the time. We then only got as far as Espinal as we got caught in a freak "ice storm". I don't remember the Casa Rural we stayed in, but there are several, plus Albergues and hotels.
Buen Camino

We stayed in Casa Piedra Arena in Burgete as our option to staying in Roncesvalles. Recommended! Anne

Thanks for this post :) and for the replies. I am also planning to make the first week shorter.

yesterday as part of my training ( i Leave in Sept) I went to for a 22km hike in rainforest. I realized at the end that 22 kms on the Camino will be too long for me- initially at least. Also realized I have some serious readjustments to consider regarding boots and socks which i will work on. I felt fine this morning BUt if I was doing it day after day I can see I would have serious foot problems- so will do some tweeking and also plan shorter stages at begininng of Camino

Have booked Orisson then willwalk to Roncesvalles but will make the day after that a shorter day.

Thanks for the info

Starting slowly and increasing daily kilometres / miles is always a good idea. What helped me is also creaming the feet abundantly in the morning and putting on two pairs of socks plus varying the length of my steps to avoid repetitive strain injuries like tendinitis. Buen Camino! SY
