Has anyone tried Acupuncture for Achilles Tendinitis? I am seeing a Physical Therapist, saw a sports medicine MD, had X-rays. My Camino training is not progressing due to this condition. Oh, I just got new insoles I really like. Any feedback about Acupuncture would be appreciated.
Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam

I cannot tell you anything about acupuncture for the achilles tendon, but I certainly can sympathise with you. I have a tear in my achilles tendon, picked up by an ultrasound scan, and am sitting here wearing a "Moon Boot". This keeps the ankle from flexing and thus allows the tendon to heal more quickly. I am to wear the boot for 4 weeks, and then return to the doctor and the physio for an assessment on the progress of the tendon. However it won't heal quickly enough for me to walk the Ingles in Sept as I had planned. I will still go to Spain, but my doctor has advised me not to indulge in any walks this year. Hopefully all will be well when I return to Spain in May next year.

Good luck with your tendonitis.

Alan

Hi Pam

I suffered terribly last year from Achilles Tendonitis after walking 240 km of Camino and yes I had acupuncture which I definitely think started the healing process. I only had a few sessions of acupuncture and then followed it up with regular stretching. It does take time though. I returned this year and walked about 180 km without bother. Hope you get it sorted soon. I know how frustrating it is!

PhillyPilgrim,
I have experienced what you are going through. The "solution" for me on more than one occasion was (is) rest until pain and swelling reduce (for me usually 2-3days), then if I can do gentle calf and ankle stretches without pain, start walking again.

Good luck Philly with one of our trickiest conditions.

Walk soon my friend and walk pain free.

Alan, I am so sorry to hear that your walk is delayed. I am preparing myself for this possibility, yet remaining optimistic. (I leave for the Camino September 1st if all goes as planned).
John, I did rest it for three weeks and was pain free, until I started to train again.
MiddleM, I think I will give Acupuncture a try. Wish me luck!!! Thanks, Pam
