I just checked the Alsa site for the earliest travel date between Pamplona and St Jean Pied de Port this year. The buses will start on March 16th with once daily service at noon.

Too many and too often!
Thank you! It’s quite frustrating that there are so few services.
I think that is because the service to SJPDP is primarily of interest to foreign pilgrims who even now are a fairly small pool of potential customers from Pamplona. Very few Spanish people travel from Pamplona to SJPDP just to turn around and walk back the same way. For most Spanish pilgrims Roncesvalles is the preferred starting point and there are several buses daily between Pamplona and Roncesvalles.

I'm aware of only a once daily* trip by Autocares Artieda.

* Except no service on Sundays and holidays.

It’s tricky, as I could pretty easily get to Pamplona from Madrid, but as my train would arrive arrive 1300 on 27 May I am anxious I will not find l affordable onward travel. Has me opting to fly into San Sebastián and get the bus, then two trains as I at least know they’re running.

You posted about that in another thread. As I replied there flying early morning from Madrid to San Sebastian and then taking a train from Hendaye would get you to SJPDP by lunchtime. You could be in SJPDP before the Pamplona bus has reached Roncesvalles. And probably for a similar or smaller price.

Sorry! I posted it here, and then realised that should really be a question in and of itself.

Thank you for your reply!

I looked at the times and, as far as I can tell, I won’t make it for the 1420 train from Bayonne, given I land into San Seb at 1300.

I must travel to Irun/Hendaye from the airport, this is a 50 min walk or 15 min bus ride. I then take the train from Hendaye to Bayonne, which is another hour. Supposing the bus and train show up immediately, that will still only give me 15 minutes spare to catch the train at Bayonne. Next departure is 1820.
