Another question about getting a credencial

Hi all.

I arrive in Leon on a Saturday night, and will then have 15 days to reach Santiago. I'll either head straight out the next morning, or linger in Leon for the day, get public transport to Astorga, and then beign walking from there on the Monday morning.

I've left it too late to get a credencial from the CSJ, so I'm just looking for some advice about getting a credencial. Specifically:

1) Is it wise to head straight out on the Sunday morning without one, and if I do, when would be the first opportunity to get one?

2) If I linger in Leon for a day with a view to starting in Astorga, can I get one on a Sunday, and where?

3) If not, where/when would it be best for me to get one?

Thanks

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Scouce.

You will not be far from me. Maybe, will have been if you've moved. Beun Camino.

Type in credential in the search box. Scroll down till you see the heading New Girl and look for falcoln in the right hand column. He says that the refugio at León will have them.

There may be more than one but I'll bet if you wait he will read this post and tell you more. :D

The only one that I know of is the Medres Benedictinas in Convento Santa Maria, c/de Escuria?plaza de santia maria del Camino 7.

My guide is 2004 so the address of the municipal albergue may now be out of date. c?Campos Goticos.

The León to Astorga route is well worth the trip, though you could easily spend a day in the cathedral and museums of Leon.

If you have the 2011 CSJ guide that will be accurate.

The sisters are an enclosed order. The refuge is in the day school attached to it and they have a warden.

If the warden doesn't issue one I am sure he or she will tell you where to get one.

Pilgrims are invited to join the sisters at Mass and while they will be sat on the other side of the room they do seem to enjoy having the pilgrims there. The priest will give the host to any pilgrim who joins the queue. In Spain it is usual for only the priest to have the wine.

In Leon, the cathedral also has credentials.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I thought you'd know falcon.

The cathedral and the convent are in easy walking distance.
