Just a couple of weeks before I arrive in the frying pan of Europe to start my nobo hike to Santiago. I orginally thought waiting until April would be best for the warm weather, but as I sit here sweating in Valencia with temps pushing 30C, I am starting to wonder if it will be too warm!

Anyway, the point of this thread is to see which guides and information people have used while on the VDLP?

Having only walked the CF, I am use to the very good Breirley guide for company, but there is no such edition for this route. I guess that might change in the future as it becomes more popular or maybe an opportunity for someone else?

So far I have...

- SYates very good notes (made into a nice format by another pilgrim, apologies cannot find thread with reference)
- Eroski Camino APP
- Silver Way APP (basic and just purchased the premium version)
- Free PDF guide from viadelaplata.net
- Orux maps, but would be nice to have the route e..g the .gpx file?

I am thinking this might well be enough, but I am wondering if I have missed anything good? My bag will be at such a weight that I do not want to carry any books, so looking more at Apps, pdfs etc. Happy to pay as well. I am tight, but not that tight.

Hi Long Trails! I am about to start the VDLP (April 10th) and I will be using Gerald Kelly's guide book 'Via de la Plata and the Camino Sanabres'. My edition came out December 2016 and looks good. It is on Amazon from the author.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Gronze site. Not an app but with great info.

Firstly - lucky you @longtrails (VdlP is my favourite camino …...so far) ;)
Really, unless you are interested in the historic aspects of the places you’ll visit, a guide is not necessary. The way is well marked and getting lost is pretty difficult. ;)o_O
I had bought the Kelly guide (online) a few years ago but never used it.
The most useful ‘guide’ for me has been the ‘Jirit accommodation guide’ (recently updated by LTfit) found here in the resource section (kms, accommodation and brief town notes) https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/resources/v%C3%ADa-de-la-plata-sanabrés-walking-accommodation-guide.408/

I had the Gerald Kelly guide on my phone, SYates' notes, the accommodation guide from the forum here, and the Eroski app. Also I checked Gronze.com sometimes too. I used each of them at various times. And then in the evening it was often interesting to compare notes with other pilgrims, who had different guides. The German guides are best, it seemed to me, in terms of maps, route descriptions and logistical information.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I'm arriving in Seville March 21 I have the Kelly guidebook plus SYates notes and download of Perrigrina 2000 stages. I'm learning to not " Over Think " the Camino, try and be prepared, mostly it's
in Gods Hands. Keep the faith, enjoy your walk,
