As seasons change albergue times you must be out by do not

It is October and the sun comes up between 8:30 and 9:00am on the Frances I am on now. Many of the Albergue's expect you to be out the door no later than 8:00am. It would seem that there would be flexibility from the Albergue's on the time they want you out as the time of sun rise changes. I have left many days earlier than 8:00am and regretted it as when walking in the dark,with a head torch, you still miss so much of the sites.

It will still be 0800 in January!!

That’s a bummer! Like you I attempted a couple dark walks what I found was I had to use my Le flashlight that could light up a long way but would blind anyone misfortunate to step into the beam. So I stopped using it & waited til daylight. For those walking in winter it must be a bugger.

You're struggling now but come Oct 29th it won't be a problem for you... sunrise changes to 7:44am with daylight savings change of the clocks! I can't remember walking much in pre-light conditions in Jan/Feb so am thinking we had a little more latitude in those months as there was rarely more than 3-5 of us in the Albergue. Anyway, carry on for a few more days and then enjoy the bright morning walks!!

“Desayuno” – my favourite word in Spanish in winter.

The evening before, I check out around and about town, who and where will be open at 8am.

So when I am tossed out, still clutching my sleeping bag and hopping out the door trying to put my boots on, I know exactly where to go for my “desayuno” and at least two cups of café con leche.

There is no need to walk in the dark.

I found that many of the albergues were flexible with respect to morning departures in November, and if not, then morning coffee was especially welcome.

Hola, what you are experiencing is the folly, some might say stupidity, of Spain’s persistence of using European Central Time, winter & summer. The result is that from Astorga westward the sun rises well after 8:00 am from late September. The situation does improve once summer time ends on the last Sunday in Oct. you just have to use your head torch! Buen Camino!

I like to leave just before 8 so that I can watch the sun come up as I walk. It's usually light enough to see by 8.15 and in any case, the clocks are changing in two days time
