My hat off to those 8 who have done it in a wheel-chair, that is some achievement, all the more so for doing it in August There have been some very hot days this August.
It must be a summer thing, whenever I walk, spring and autumn, the majority are German and I have met very few Italians. I meet some Spaniards but I suspect that that is because I stay in Albergues and the majority of these Spaniards, starting in Sarria, stay in hotels and walk with day bags, that is probably why the numbers have dropped, it is an expensive way of travelling
Initially I met no Poles but last year I met a few, Brits are thin on the ground when I walk, but I am surprised that the number for UK and for Ireland is so similar, it must be that the Irish prefer the cooler weather I have met substantially more Irish than British.
I'm not surprised that there are more students than retired people in August, needs must, but I wouldn't.
Congratulations to all those who brave the heat.

Yes. One fact which is missing however (because it isn't recorded) is the number of pilgrims who walk in organised groups - and August is certainly the month for them.
