Bank cards

Hi, this forum is a very nice place.

I have two debit cards: Visa electron and maestro. I wonder which one is more common and better to use in Spain?

I will start walking camino in mid-june. I would like to know whether it will be very crowded or not?

We used our Master (maestro) cards in Spain. If you go to their website and check out Spain you can find the 'fee free' machines so only pay your actual card charges/commision. We made a note, in our guide, of some along our route. Generally Caixa Galicia and Caixa Nova seem to be free to use.
Sorry we don't know about electron.

Hi there,

Both of these cards will works just fine...

The Electron in basically a regular visa card (minus the ability to use it online, and that should not be a problem while walking, unless you want to book a flight home online).

Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Please remember to CALL YOUR BANK and tell them you will be in Spain.
Sometimes Pilgrims are surprised when the charges are denied or the card is eaten by the machine because they fear it has been stolen.

This is good advice. Some banks need to activate your card for use in "strange places" (like suddenly you start using it in Spain) :)

Saludos,
Ivar

Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
