Barajas Airport to Atocha Train Station

I just found this on another travel website:
"Just thought I would add that a friend has just done the "Barajas metro to Atocha route" with a slight variation the metro personnel told her to do.( If this variation has been posted, please forgive)

Take the metro to Nuevos Ministerios.
Get off there and change to the "Cercanias" trains. You need to buy a new ticket from the machine. It lists the most popular destinations first, and then you select "more destinations" and "Atcoha" comes up.

No more changes. In two stops you are at Atocha!
Very fast, direct, and a close second, or perhaps first, now, in my mind, for getting inexpensively to that seemingly far away train station."

That looks like a good option, Jeff.

As Madrid, like many cities, has priced itself out of the affordable housing market, many people have moved to the towns and villages outside of the city. The cercanias trains are the commuter trains that come in and out from those surrounding towns.

I'm still fond of the Madrid Metro, myself. Perhaps because I am so familar with it, but I find it to be so convenient, fast, clean, bright and easy to use that it is usually my first choice in going anywhere around Madrid - after walking, of course! :wink:

Here is an excllent site with all the information regarding the Metro - including a great, high definition metro map that you can download in .pdf. If you have a colour printer, you can even get all the colours of the lines for ease of use! It gives all the prices, options for ticket variations and the bus and other train routes in and around Madrid.
