Hi all Handzondeck here
I'm considering doing a winter Camino next year and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good starting point. I intend to travel in late Nov 2014.

Thanks. And Ultreya

I have a friend walking the Camino Frances at the moment, planning to reach Santiago for Xmas. While he had planned to start in SJPP, his departure from Australia was delayed, and he altered his plans to start in Pamplona. Which is a roundabout way of getting to the point that any place might be as good a starting point as any other without knowing what your personal motivations might be. In my friend's case, arriving in Santiago to celebrate Xmas there influenced him to select a different starting point where he could do that even when he was delayed.

and I am starting in SJPdP next Sunday - if all goes well. another woman from Melbourne is meeting me in Burgos, but only walking for about 10 days - maybe as far as Leon or therabouts. Janet

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I started out from Pamplona in winter. It all went well. There were even people crossing the Pyrenees without difficulty in early 2011. On the other hand, when I went from Le Puy to Pamplona in 2010 there were serious weather problems in the Pyrenees in late May!

I guess I'd stay flexible about SJPDP and keep Pamplona up the sleeve. By the way, the Valcarlos route is very under-rated. Loved it!

Buen camino

Rob

Hi

You dont say which route you want to walk, and there are many. Others have assumed the CF, and they may be right.

It would help you if you mentioned how much time you have.

The more you say, the better the responses.

Have a great walk!
