One of the oldest towns in Australia - Blackheath, celebrates one of the world's oldest christian pilgrimages - "The Camino" to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Blue Mountains Australia Supporters of the Camino — Walkers (Peregrinos) and Cyclists (Pelegrinos) are invited to our thirteenth event:
This sixth meeting for 2016 is to be held on Friday 29th July at 7pm at Glenella Guest House at Blackheath and will consist of a Pilgrim’s Meal for the minimal cost $25, including wine.
Our special speaker will be one of our original members—Guy “Digger” Kemp who has just come back from walking his first ever Camino, but the different route from the South of Spain. He left Almeria on 2 May and walked up through the centre of Spain , along the Via De La Plata, over 1,000km to Santiago over about 6 weeks. He wrote a great blog and is a fabulous storyteller with a marvellous eye for history, the absurd and a great turn of phrase. Learn how a “newbie turns into a Pilgrim” - you are in for a treat!
As well, for fun, if you want to join us for a local 2.5 hour walk, on Saturday 30th July at 9am we leave from Glenella Guest House. Just turn up and join in, coffee at the halfway point—See the picture above of how many came in June in the snow!
But wait there’s more! We will then continue our Camino Saturday at Glenella with: Buying our own lunches and then joining together at Glenella to eat; Group discussion — Chose your own topic from such as—’Packing and adjusting Poles’, ‘Blisters and Boot Lacing’, ‘Guide Book use’, ‘Hospitalero’ etc; The usual free Swaps table and large book and DVD Camino library to browse; About 4pm we will have a Camino Film (choose from a number) with a $15 delicious homemade Pizza; There will be plenty of time to talk and meet - Do more local walks if the mood takes you
