St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Buen camino! For Madrid I suggest using booking.com to find a suitably priced accommodation. If you are using the bus the next day, pick something near the bus station for convenience.

Buen Camino! For Burgos I always stay at the Norte y Londres hotel which can be found on booking.com they are always very friendly and helpful and the rooms are nice, it's well situated and only about a 10 minute walk from the bus station, also very close to the Camino.

Make you relief 10% easier and book your hotel in Madrid near the train station you're departing from. If you'll be spending some time sight seeing in Madrid, could be worthwhile to book a hotel near the sights you want to see.

Sounds perfect. Is it easier to go by bus. I was thinking of train.

I'm sorry I don't know - I've only ever left Burgos by bus - I travelled from there to Santiago by bus in 2015 when I finished walking SJPP to Burgos.

I've never travelled from Madrid and don't actually know where the train station is in Burgos. Though i'm sure it would be only a shortish bus or taxi ride away from the old town. The bus station is quite well situated just across the river from the old town. I found the buses very efficient in Spain - it took me 9 hours to get from Burgos to Santiago but it was very straightforward, on time and we stopped regularly for comfort breaks at service stations. So I think whichever way you travel would be fine :) I'm sure that someone with more experience in that area will come along to give you advice.
