Camino de Frances (Summer 2015)
Hey there,
I'm having trouble booking a train from Bordeaux to St. Jean Pied de Port.
I'll be travelling there on the 24th June - does anyone know if there is a particular need to book trains in advance at that time of year?

Thanks.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
There are trains every couple hours from Bordeaux to Bayonne, see SNCF site. The trains from Bayonne to SJPdP is actually a bus and there are four a day, you can buy a ticket at the station.

I just looked at the SNCF website. It's a little finicky about the spelling of SJPP. There are train/bus combinations. Train to Bayonne and continuation via bus to SJPP.

Here's a link to the schedules on the Capitaine Train website. I used this site last month when I had problems (for the first time) using my U.S. credit card on the SNCF site. I bought my ticket online from their site and just printed my ticket at home and carried it on board. Very easy.

Bon chemin and buen camino.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

You're best off booking a train seat from Bordeaux to Bayonne separate from the Bayonne to SJPdP. The website gets finicky about the transfer at Bayonne. There is no particular need to reserve in advance of arriving at the station other than price changes. You must have a seat reservation and ticket prior to boarding TGV and Intercites trains.

The trip from Bayonne to SJPdP (currently service is by bus) is provided by SNCF TER Aquitaine. You cannot reserve a seat on SNCF TER services. A ticket can be purchased and is good for 90 days. You can buy it at the station.

That's great to know - thanks.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
