Boxing Day on the Jakobsweg in Tirol, Austria

It doesn't get more Christmassy for a caminoist: Boxing Day on the Jakobsweg in Tirol, Austria. I walked from Waidring to St. Johann via the Pillersee, a distance of about 25 km. It was sort of a try-out, because I wasn't sure it could be done in winter with plenty of snow, but it worked out good and I had no problems.
To be honest, the weather was perfect. During midday I walked in just a t-shirt: sunny and no wind. Secondly most of the trail was either mostly snow-free tarmac (I estimate 70% of the total distance) or well trodden snow. A doddle, in this case.
I got most of my information about the trail from this site. It is in German (edit: now also in English), but relatively straightforward, and contains GPX/KML files for each stage. I also read @BobM's account of a week on the Jakobsweg in july this year, who ended his walk in St. Johann.
Just a couple of practical tips after a day on the trail: trekking poles for extra balance (just one proved very useful today) and do bring gaiters/gamaschen to keep your boots dry.
Maybe I'll walk a bit more on the Jakobsweg tomorrow. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Thank you for the li'l report and the splendid fotos. Really enjoy them ... (what is being said in austrian-german for "Buen Camino'? do you know?)
Will be looking for part II tomorrow or whenever you choose to be posting your tales ...
wishing you ice-free trails - and fine views! (and perhaps some hot spicy wine afterwards?)

Lovely photos! Thanks for sharing. I love walking in fresh snow and with those mountains in the background, I can’t imagine a nicer day of walking.
