Broken foot on the camino...

I walked the last portion of the camino last year from Sarria to Santiago... and this year have a group of friends coming to do it with me again... only... I broke my foot.... While I can't walk it.. I'm wondering if there's a way I can still go and just get a ride between the towns with people carrying baggage for other groups... is this realistic? I would rent a car except my drivers license was stolen... I'm a mess.. but I don't want to let my friends down...

While some of the people transporting baggage are licensed to carry people, others are not and will only take bags. For the most part it is much cheaper to take the local buses between villages. Where you might pay 20 euros for a taxi, a bus could be as little as 1,30 euros!

Many of my walkers bussed various stages last trip and I have bussed on occasion when sick or just needing a break. You usually just pay the bus driver so have about five euros in change.

I think you could go via bus between most villages and taxi when that is not an option. Most albergues will have the local bus schedule posted. If not, just ask

We met a group in exactly your situation - only the lady did hers once already on the camino. She took a bus each day while the others walked. She claimed it was far less of a problem than she had anticipated. The hospitalero will usually be willing to give you relevant information.

If your friends are walking Sarria-Santiago in the classic 5 days, you'll need to consider cost and timing options: taxis vs. bus. The Freire bus company (Lugo-Santiago) passes along the Camino towns from Palas de Rei to Santiago (even a bit before, but you may want local info on this). Check http://www.empresafreire.com
