Burgos -> Leon - What's the weather, mid-April 2024?

Hi, I start my Burgos to Leon perambulation 20th April. Just wondering what the weather is like there if anyone on Camino at present near burgos. Weather apps say temp is -1° in the mornings!! Is it really that cold? Is it hat / gloves / scarves territory?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I'm not there, but yes if you are lucky to have beautiful clear starlit mornings then they will be cold until the sun comes up. Everyone assumes the Meseta is sunbaked, which it is, but Burgos for instance is also nearly 900 meters above sea-level. So it's high plain territory, and its beautiful.

Ski gear would be an individual choice.

Today is my 17th day, and I’m having lunch in Leon.
The days from Burgos across the Meseta were very similar every day, and weather reports tell me that it won’t change very much:
Freezing cold (0-5 degrees C) in the morning at 7 when I started walking. I had all three layers (T-shirt, softshell, windbreaker) on and didn’t feel cold at all. Only hands were getting cold with the chilly wind, so I tugged them in. If you’re using walking sticks, gloves would be very good!
At around 10, first layer went off, sometimes at 12 the next. But today I’m still with my softshell around.
It’s been sunny each and every day!

You can even expect temp below zero in the morning.
This temperature setup is optimal in my humble opinion, anything above 18 degrees will slow you down.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Thanks, good advice. I'll do the 3 layers thing as well. Looking forward to it, not too hot,not too cold 😀

I am in Burgos right now. Yes, it's cold. It's lovely when the sun comes out, but it is otherwise cold and windy. I agree with what @arkron said in post #3 about layering. I also wear lightweight merino gloves and I also recommend a merino buff for your neck/head.

Buen camino! If you are starting on the 20th, maybe we will cross paths. 🙂

Oh dear, intend to walk same route starting 2nd May. Must rethink my layers.
Similar to our 1st Camino May 2013 when I recount that we didn't walk for the 1st 3 days but swam them.!!!
Never experiences that rain of biblical proportions before or since.
Will keep a keen interest on the weather forecast...
Thanks for your information.
