California couple walking Sarria - Santiago 31Aug-5Sep09.

Hi pilgrims. Curt & Camille are walking from Siarra to Santiago in 5 days starting 01Sep09. We are flying into Santiago SCQ on 31Aug, then plan to take the Freire bus to town and drop our suitcases off with the bellman at our eventual Santiago hotel. We'll then take backpacks only to the bus station and get the Freire (or ALSA) bus to Lugo at 1430, 1600, 1700, 1800 or 1830. Then we hope to find a Freire bus on to Siarra, or we'll take a taxi. This plan is from internet research here and elsewhere. Any advice is appreciated.
We have hotels or manor houses booked each night through EA Tour Specialist, since I couldn't find the hotels myself. This was a bit expensive (E 1,250 for eight nights), but we're over 60 and need a good night's sleep to recharge. We'll carry our own stuff in backpacks (16lb and 5lb).
I'll take my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. My project today is to get Spain (Garmin World Maps), the Camino trail Sairra-Santiago (alojamientos?), and each booked hotel GPS position into the hand-held GPS.
Thanks for a great forum. Watch for us on the trail. Now back to work...

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I hope all goes well for you.
Five days from Sarria to Santiago sounds like a very managable pace... about 22 kilometres / day.

I'm not sure how you will find the gps coordinates for your hotels, but it will all work out.

Don't have your nose too close to the GPS . Lift your head, follow the yellow arrows, and mix with the other pilgrims, see the sights.

Enjoy a warm shower each day, a clean bed every night and a good sleep in a room to yourself.

Buen Camino,
David, Victoria, Canada.

Thanks David.
That all sounds like good advice. I have the GPS loaded but will keep it in a pocket unless we loose the yellow arrows or can't find the hotel.

Living in the Now,
Curt

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi Curt and Camille
Best of luck on you upcoming walk along the camino. I hope you enjoy every moment of your journey.
It is also exciting isn't it.
I will be starting my first camino in September from Roncesvalles.
My daughter may join me on the Sarria to Santiago portion of the trip. I'll be interested to hear about your experience when you get finished.

Buen Camino
