Camera batteries

I´m wondering if any camera experts can help me. I have a Sony digital camera, and I have been round their website in circles trying to find out if I can use ordinary duracell alkaline AA batteries instead of Sony´s rechargeable AA ones while on the Camino, but I haven´t managed to find an answer . I am thinking of saving the weight of carrying a charger and two sets of batteries, and also a plug adapter, but obviously do not want to risk losing all my photos or damaging my camera. Any tips or advice would be most welcome.

If your camera takes AA batteries, it is likely you can use any AA batteries. I have a Sony digital camera, but it uses a special-sized Sony lithium battery that you recharge. I didn't want to take a charger etc, and decided to buy a cheap Canon digital camera that took AA batteries. Then I followed some advice of sil's and carried lithium AA batteries, which last an incredibly long time, for more than 600 shots easily! I was able to buy a replacement pair in Spain (but not in France where they are forbidden, perhaps for environmental reasons that I never quite sussed out.)

Sandra, the Lithium batteries (non-rechargeable) cost a little more than the normal AA batteries but will last your whole camino. I carried 4 with me and was able to take 600 photographs on high resolution.
Give them a try - you won't regret it.

Thumbs up for Lithium AA for a digital camera. One pair lasted the whole Camino and more

Many thanks for your help, is there any special brand which you'd recommend :?:

I used the Energizer Lithiums for my Canon camera. I brought an 8-pack with me. After 30 days of use, I changed them even though they were still working fine. I gave 2 away to another pilgrim whose batteries died, and never used the last 2.

Can i remind everyone to recycle batteries on the camino to save the precious environment and resources: this is very easy in spain. Any shop selling batteries and any camera or photo printing shop will have a container marked PILAS which is spanish for Batteries. Also a lot of the village recycling areas have a little slot in one of the big bottle banks marked PILAS. Buen Camino
