Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Sue and have given myself 6 weeks leave from my wonderful family in Melbourne to celebrate turning 50 mid May. I will be walking the Camino Frances for the first time with my sister-in-law Judi. We will be starting from Roncesvalles about 10th May, just fine tuning a few things at the moment and no doubt will have some questions to post at some stage. I have gained so much information from this wonderful website and it really seems like the journey IS the destination, can't wait.

Hi Sue -

What a wonderful birthday celebration!

You will enjoy the time of your life!

Buen camino.

Hello Sue,

Are you as impatient and nervous as I am?

As I will be walking from SSPP starting May 13, there is a small chance we will meet up down the camino. I always expected the Camino would be my 50th birthday present but life made it happen for my 35th birthday .

Buen Camino!

Hello sue

What a fantastic birthday gift, it may turn out to be a gift that keeps on giving, over and over. I too am from Melbourne , I walked my first camino with my sister 2009, for me it was a gift that keeps on giving, I will be walking the camino again in late may. I have a feeling that it will not be my last just as long as I can place one foot in front of the other and I don't have my travel insurance refused. I am sure you will male some great friends on the way and lasting memories, I have a list of most refugios (hostels) with prices in order of distances c/w ATM and store availability for each location. If you send me a private message I can email the list to you as a word document. As most people on this forum I am happy to answer any questions , I only wish I had read this forum before my first camino, it would have saved me a lot of wasted effort and reduced my pack weight by several kg. Enjoy, get exited, and savior every minute of your camino!! Even the pain, hardship, heat, wet, cold etc.

Regards

Frank

Hi Sue,
You've given yourself the best birthday pressie ever! We walked the CF in 2009 keeping a teenage promise to ourselves and to celebrate, amongst other things, turning 50.....we had a lot of fun
And remember Sue you don't have a 50th birthday you have a 50th Festival that goes on for a WHOLE YEAR.
Happy St Patricks day

HI Sue, how amazing, takes me back, I did precisely the same thing for my 50th birthday, the Camino was just the start! Since then I have walked many more routes! I am now 55 and have covered 3000 km since my first camino in 2006. I am totally into keeping going, ideally every year, but work gets in the way a bit.... Have a great time, love, Gitti

Thank you so much to each of you that responded to my post, I felt quite emotional reading your replies, what a truly wonderful forum. Happy St Patrick's Day to you too nellpilgrim (my father-in-law is from County Waterford).

I has all been said :) and Happy Birthday Pilgrim!

What a great present to give yourself. For my 50th I moved to the place I really wanted to live. This year for my 65th I will walk the Camino Portugues. ;-)

Excellent Sue! If you are anything like the rest of us I can only guess what your present will be for your 51st , 52nd , 53rd.........

Sue--I'm doing my first Camino this year as well, leaving SJPP May 11 so we may cross paths. It is, among other things, a celebration of my 60th birthday. What a wonderful way to age...we aren't just getting older, we are getting stronger and wise, I hope.

Hi everybody, I am the sister in law, Judi, walking with Sue. I'm really looking forward to the experience. I have wanted to go to Spain for over 25 years. This will be a special trip.

Hi Judi, 25 years is a long time to wait, I am confident that will have a fantastic time and lifetime memory, and maybe return to do it all over again?

Frank :)
