Hello,

I'm am planning to hike part of the Camino Portugues Central from Porto to Santiago this Winter (Dec/Jan).
Any advice or suggestions from people who have hike this section during winter or other Caminos during the holidays? Thanks

Hi CaminoScott,

Something to look into, in 2017 I walked the central from Porto to Santiago. I spent a very enjoyable evening at Albergue Quinta Estrada Romana.
In a conversation with the proprietor, he mentioned that the only way he could keep the dampness out of his establishment and home in the winter was with a wood fire. He was working hard to make his albergue a self subsisting and ecologically friendly establishment and this was not to his satisfaction.
The short of this story is that it left me with the impression that it could be very damp in the winter.

Buen Camino

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The Albergue Quinta Estrada Romana since 2020 that has new owners, a Portuguese-German family with 3 kids living there that open the doors of their home for you. They have a nice and cozy fire stove in the living room and right now, they are installing in one dorm and in the private room the Ac's for the comfort of the pilgrims. I highly recommend this place on the Portuguese Camino (check the reviews on google here). Buen Camino!
