Can you fly in to one airport and fly out of another with the budget airlines?

Hi, I just wondered if anyone knew if you can fly in and out of a different airport with the budget airlines? I am planning on walking for 17 days, so hopefully should get to Terradillos? Does anyone know where the nearest airport would be? This is my first Camino and I am full of questions?

If you can get to Sahagun, take the train to Leon and fly out of there. It's not a major airport so it obviously depends on where you want to fly

Thank you for replying. I am trying to walk the whole pilgrimage but it depends on work. I don't mind where I fly back to in the uk, it is a small country. Where is the nearest large airport where the budget airlines fly from, roughly half way along the frances camino? Thank you again

On the link is the ryanair site they fly to Biarritz for to start in San Jean then half way approx is Santander but you will have to get a bus / train from were ever you stop they then fly out of Santiago its self if you walk that far there is a number of flights from Leon but very few on the other link is the camino map you can then deside were you might stop then go to the ryanair site and see what flights are available for the dates you plan

Aena operates all of Spain's airports. The link shows all the airports in Spain.

From this page you can navigate to any airport. Each airport site has a link to the airlines and destinations they fly to.

Note that a lot of the airports are not well served. Leon is one of those. On the plus side Leon is very well served by bus and train.

Terradillos is a small village in the middle of nowhere. You'd have to look in advance to find if a bus even stops there. I would suggest to catch train or bus from either Carrion de los Condes (before Terradillos) or Sahagun (after Terradillos) to Madrid via Leon (3 to 5 hours) and fly from there. Madrid is well served by several discount airlines.

Second best option would be either Santander or Asturias which last time I looked had flights to London on alternate days.

I think it has already been answered that discount airlines sell one way tickets ... making it easy to fly in one airport and out from another.

At the moment there is one flight a day to Barcelona from Leon. Departures dropped 40% this year, and the airport, with its new terminal, seems almost abandoned.

Some of it might depend on the time of year you are walking. That said, I would try to walk to Sahagun (Less than 20km's from Terridillos) and take the train to Madrid from there. Several airlines (easy jet, Ryan Air, Vueling and others) offer daily non stop flights to STN, LGW AND LTN for reasonable prices one way. I suggest you try the Kayak web site.

That is really helpful Joe, thank you. It should take about 18 days walks and then a train ride to Madrid and then fly back to UK. I should make it back within 3 weeks.
Are there any other major airports or would Madrid be the nearest if I I stopped walking on day 16, to give myself more time?

Sacred Heart:

Madrid, in my opinion, offers the most/best options. The Renfe train from Sahagun to Madrid Chamartin is a little over two hours. Then you take the Cercanias (sp.) train from the same station (runs every 30 min.) to Madrid T4. You will easily make Sahagun at 30Km's per day. That said, I recommend you start a little slower and ease your way into 30km days. The Meseta will provide an opportunity for longer days and you body will be in Camino shape by then.
