Cheering news from the Caminho Portugues, central region...

Getting ready for post-coronavirus:

(I think this is just down the hill and across the tracks from our place!--the second sign location mentioned in the story. I have a feeling the waste bin and bench are new, or moved from elsewhere, as well. Don't remember these from our last visit.)

Translation of story:

"The work on placing the information signs for the Camino de Santiago in the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, was completed on April 1, announced the Municipality. The work started in August 2019 with the application of directional signs and ended with the assembly of larger panels, with maps and descriptive and tourist information of the route.

"The new structures are implemented in Pedregoso, next to the border with the municipality of Golegã [south end of route through our municipality], at the intersection of Rua Salgueiro Maia (EN3) with Rua da Cardiga [illustrated above; just south of the railway tracks, I believe], Vila Nova da Barquinha, as well as next to the EDP Transformation Post where Vhils developed the his artistic work in honor of potters, at Rua Paulino José Correia, Atalaia {part of the municipality's mural project}.

(The EDP (electric company) tower mentioned above as a mural site--up in Atalaia.)

"The Camino de Santiago section that crosses the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha starts at Pedregoso and ends at the Tancos river, next to the Ecocentro [solid waste site], at the northern limit of the municipality, in the parish of Atalaia.

"The intervention was developed within the scope of the “Integrated Tourist Products” project, in partnership with the Inter-municipal Community of Médio Tejo. The initiative results from the protocol signed between Turismo Centro de Portugal and the Association of Pilgrims Via Lusitana, which aims to place signs on the entire section of the Camino de Santiago that crosses the Centro region."

Bom caminho, everyone.........some day soon, we hope!

Bom caminho, everyone.........some day soon, we hope! @Friend from Barquinha

Thankyou for the translation good friend.
.....some day soon. ... I truly hope that works for you.
although I miss the camino /caminho so much in normal times - the memories are running rampant through these sad times when we just ‘can’t’ return.
Every memory that comes to mind - I start thinking : when will I see that/ when will I be there again?

It’s going to a very busy zone when things are back to normal.

Thinking of you all there right now - praying that you are in good health and able to help your neighbour..

Thanks, Annie! Like you, I'm far from the caminho right now--back in Canada, on the West Coast. But I have many friends there, and hope they are doing okay. The Portuguese government seems to be keeping on top of this, as much as anyone can...

Cheers to everyone and best wishes...

Ola - Oh how I want to see a camino with just one or two pilgrims walking (say 5 metres apart), but I think I am going to have to wait for the vaccine. Cheers

I live in Lisbon but have not yet walked the Caminho Português. I didn't realize there was a Vhils mural along the route! Definitely something to look forward to. For those not familiar with his work, he's Portugal's greatest street artist and has a unique technique, using not paint and paintbrushes but drills, chisels and even explosives to carve portraits into walls. Here's an interview with him.

Thanks for this, Wendy. I hadn’t heard about this artist yet but will be excited to follow his work.

I took this photo in Atalaia as I was walking through on 9 Oct 2018. I did a double take – impressive!
