Clothing Choices for September

Vivendo il Sogno

Left Foot, Right Foot, Repeat
Time of past OR future Camino
September 2015
Hi. Leaving St. Jean on September 11 and worried about clothing choices. I usually walk in skorts and alternate short, long sleeve shirts and light jackets. Was taking skorts and only one pants. Should I take more pants? What weight jacket? Only started planning two weeks ago and now worried. Help!

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

I walked Sept 15-Oct 4 last year. (partial camino) The only time I really put on my extremely light weight shell was coming out of Granon early one morning. As soon as the sun came over the horizon I was too warm. I walked in my Macabi skirt every day but one. That day I wore the shorts part of my convertible pants but found the skirt to be cooler. Never broke out my long sleeve walking shirt. I think your best bet is to look up historical weather data for the days you'll be walking for the stages you'll be walking and base your clothing selection on your comfort level.

Thanks, Great Dane. We plan to be finished one way or another by October 23, as that is our flight out of Madrid. I tend to be warm when hiking, but started second guessing last minute!

I am about to leave myself and keep wondering if I should go one long and one short sleeve shirt. I also have 2 pair of zipoff pants and wondering if one set of leggings that work on both shorts are enough. I posted this elsewhere, but here is last year's temps for next month.

Thanks. Where did you find this chart? I need to look at October, too, as we won't finish up until Ocotober 22nd or so.

I actually made it. I am a bit of a techie and tried to get a handle on the weather itself. Basically, I put in a spreadsheet and created a graph. I only posted it later given how many people have been asking about it.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Well, that's a pretty cool chart,WildWil! Gets me an idea of September, but not leaving until October 23rd, so I need to look at October too! When is your trip?

One pair of long pants should be enough.
Layers are the key in September/October.
Agreed.....I would also take a fleece (or equivalent) as well. I do not use a poncho but rather a trek umbrella with a hooded rain jacket. The Jacket also helps out on those cool mornings and evenings.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Oh, Annie, I think you just answered my question. Is a micro fleece warm enough for my "warmest" layer? That is sort of what I was planning. Zip up or half zip? So, one pant and one skirt/skort (I don't usually wear shorts, comfortable walking in general in skorts). One short sleeved top and one long sleeved. I do have the rain jacket. Never thought about a trek umbrella, but I am using poles, so maybe wouldn't work.
