Can one bring dried fruit into Spain, vacuum packed or sealed packages?

Hi, Marietjie, I have frequently brought in a bag of trail mix for those first few days, and it has a bunch of dried fruits in it. I have never seen a sign nor been asked about bringing any kind of food into Spain.

When crossing into a foreign country, local authorities are concerned about FRESH fruit and vegetables. Processed and packaged fruits and vegetables are rarely of concern. Most, if not all of the insects or parasites that "piggyback" on fresh items are usually eliminated by the processing.

So, yes, dried fruit is fine to take into any EU country. Packaging is immaterial.

Also, once you are there, dried fruits (& nuts) are called "fruta seco." They are sold everywhere, and are typically found adjacent to each other in any supermercado. When asking for either, use the "fruita seco" phrase.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!! That's what I thought and that is the reason why I specifically mention the packaging. Your answer is very helpful. Well, Spain is also a sunny country and I know we will find dried fruit and I am looking forward to it, I just want to be a step ahead!

Wish the site was in English?! Thanks anyway, I think I got my answer. Will also google!
