Easter and the Saint James Connection

Holy Year from Pamplona 2010, SJPP 2011, Lisbon 2012, Le Puy 2013, Vezelay (partial watch this space!) 2014; 2015 Toulouse-Puenta la Reina (Arles)
This is a bit convoluted so please bear with me. On the forum there is already much interest in Semana Santa and Easter so I wish to add my two bits starting with a question. Where was Saint James, say. on Good Friday or during the crucifixion? The Biblical narrative offers little information beyond stating that the disciples fled for their lives when Jesus was taken.. We do know from the Gospels that Roman soldiers witnessed the event, some few passing by and from afar, a group of women. Who were they? Mary of course, the Magdalena, and Mary Salome – the mother of Saint James! One of the narratives, if my memory doesn't fail, relates that a "beloved disciple" was also present who some identify as John, the brother of Saint James! Who was present when the empty tomb was discovered? Mary, the Magdalena, and Mary Salome!

Now to the point. In Santiago on Rua Nova #27 is found the Iglesia de Santa María Salomé, an ancient church built in the 12th century which I have visited many times at differing hours only to find the door securely locked. No mass hours posted no neighbors who knew. I haven't given up hope. Should any be in Santiago over Semana Santa or Easter do stop by, she is the touchstone we pilgrims of Saint James may seek for the holiday. Photographs of the church found on the internet are intriguing.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
By chance were you there in 2016? See this Voz de Galicia account of archaeological finds during that year.
Like everything in Santiago and indeed also Jerusalem, there are fascinating discoveries just underground or next door waiting to be revealed!
