I have been patiently waiting until it would be safe for Spain and my own home country. But here is the message I have been hoping for. All EU citizens will receive a QR code, if they have at least 1 jab of an approved vaccin. Of course receiving countries could set further requirements, but both Spain and my home country the Netherlands appear clearly on track to vaccinate themselves out of the pandemic over the coming 7 weeks
. I wait with booking and flight entry into Spain (now planned for Madrid, good Renfe train connection to Pamplona and then bus 3 times a day to Roncesvalles) to ensure I enter Spain from a low epidemic region, but it looks that me and so many of my EU fellow pilgrims will be good to go when the holiday season starts!
I am starting from Roncesvalles on June 29, to make it easier and stay within one country, should I still have to rely on a negative PCR test and the 72-hours limit. A second
Camino Frances has been on my mind for months through working from home and Zoom and Teams, but now it is really going to happen, and I cannot wait.
Italian officials are thought to have introduced the one-shot policy in an attempt to not run out of jabs.
